Coma I Group
The Coma I Group is a Galaxy_group, group of galaxies located about away in the constellation Coma Berenices. The brightest member of the group is NGC 4725. The Coma I Group is rich in Spiral galaxy, spiral galaxies while containing few Elliptical galaxy, elliptical and Lenticular galaxy, lenticular galaxies. Coma I lies in the foreground of the more distant Coma Cluster, Coma and Leo Cluster, Leo Galaxy cluster, clusters and is located within the Virgo Supercluster. The Coma I Group is currently infalling into the Virgo Cluster and will eventually merge with it. Structure The Coma I Group appears to consist of two main subgroups, a denser subgroup centered on NGC 4274 and NGC 4278, and looser one surrounding NGC 4565 as suggested by Gérard de Vaucouleurs, De Vaucouleurs. However, Gregory and Thompson (1977) found no clear evidence for two distinct subgroups in Coma I. NGC 4414
NGC 4414, also known as the Dusty Spiral Galaxy, is an unbarred spiral galaxy about 62 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. It was discovered by Germany, German-British astronomer William Herschel on 13 March 1785. NGC 4414 is a flocculent spiral galaxy, with short segments of spiral structure but without the dramatic well-defined spiral arms of a Grand design spiral galaxy, grand design spiral. The galaxy was imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995, as part of the HST's main mission to determine the distance to galaxies, and again in 1999 as part of the Hubble Heritage Project, Hubble Heritage project. It has been part of an ongoing effort to study its Cepheid variable stars. Virgo Supercluster
The Local Supercluster (LSC or LS), or Virgo Supercluster is a formerly defined supercluster containing the Virgo Cluster and Local Group, which itself contains the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies, as well as others. At least 100 galaxy groups and clusters are located within its diameter of 33 megaparsecs (110 million light-years). The Virgo Supercluster is one of about 10 million superclusters in the observable universe, with the main body of the supercluster, the Virgo Strand, connecting the Hydra-Centaurus and the Perseus–Pisces Superclusters. The Virgo Supercluster is part of the Pisces–Cetus Supercluster Complex, a galaxy filament. NGC 4631 Group
The NGC 4631 Group is a poorly defined group of galaxies, about 25 million light-years from Earth in the Coma Berenices and Canes Venatici constellations. The NGC 4631 Group is one of many that lie within the Virgo Supercluster. NGC 4747 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is located at a distance of about 35 million light years from Earth, which, given its apparent dimensions, means that NGC 4747 is about 35,000 light years across. NGC 4494 is an elliptical galaxy located in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is located at a distance of circa 45 million light years from Earth, which, given its apparent dimensions, means that NGC 4494 is about 60,000 light years across. Gérard De Vaucouleurs
Gérard Henri de Vaucouleurs (25 April 1918 – 7 October 1995) was a French astronomer best known for his studies of galaxies. Life and career Gérard de Vaucouleurs was born on April 25, 1918 in Paris, he took the maiden name of his mother as his last name. He had an early interest in amateur astronomy and received his undergraduate degree in 1939 at the Sorbonne in that city. After military service in World War II, he resumed his pursuit of astronomy. He was married to fellow astronomer Antoinette de Vaucouleurs on October 31, 1944, and the couple would frequently collaborate on astronomical research. NGC 4565 (also known as the Needle Galaxy or Caldwell 38) is an edge-on spiral galaxy about 30 to 50 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.
