Colour Green
''Colour Green'' is the debut studio album by German actress and singer-songwriter Sibylle Baier. It was originally recorded between 1970 and 1973, but was not released until 2006. Background ''Colour Green'' was recorded on a reel-to-reel tape recorder in Baier's home in Germany. Part of the album was inspired by a trip through Europe by Baier and her friend Claudine. This particular journey yielded the writing of the track "Remember the Day," reportedly the first that Baier wrote. The instrumentation on most of the album is minimal, featuring only Baier's voice and nylon-string guitar. However, the last track on the album, "Give Me a Smileā€, features an orchestrated string section and an electronic organ, and Baier plays a steel-string guitar instead of a nylon-strung one. Some 30 years after these songs were recorded, Baier's son Robby compiled a CD from these recordings to give to family members as presents. He also gave a copy to Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis Joseph Donald ...

Sibylle Baier
Sibylle Baier (born 25 February 1945) is a German folk singer and actress, whose musical abilities achieved belated recognition with the 2006 release of the album '' Colour Green'', compiled from songs she had recorded in the early 1970s. Her music is known for its plainness, emotional sincerity, and reference to mundane life in a folk style that's been compared to the works of Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake. Background Having played the guitar and piano as a young girl, she was moved to write her first song, "Remember The Day", after taking a road trip with a friend across the Alps to Genoa, via Strasbourg. She appeared in Wim Wenders's 1973 film ''Alice in the Cities'', and her music is also featured in Jochen Richter's ''Umarmungen und andere Sachen'' (1975) and in Wenders' ''Palermo Shooting'' (2008). Baier opted not to pursue an acting or singing career, and eventually moved to the United States, where she concentrated on bringing up a family. The songs that made up her ...

Folk Music
Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. Some types of folk music may be called world music. Traditional folk music has been defined in several ways: as music transmitted orally, music with unknown composers, music that is played on traditional instruments, music about cultural or national identity, music that changes between generations (folk process), music associated with a people's folklore, or music performed by custom over a long period of time. It has been contrasted with commercial and classical styles. The term originated in the 19th century, but folk music extends beyond that. Starting in the mid-20th century, a new form of popular folk music evolved from traditional folk music. This process and period is called the (second) folk revival and reached a zenith in the 1960s. This form of music is sometimes called contemporary folk music or folk ...

Allmusic
AllMusic (previously known as All-Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as All-Music Guide by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it, he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. In 1990, in Big Rapids, Michigan, he founded ''All Music Guid ...

Dinosaur Jr
Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984, originally simply called Dinosaur until legal issues forced a change in name. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums). After three albums on independent labels, the band earned a reputation as one of the formative influences on American alternative rock. Creative tension led to Mascis firing Barlow, who later formed Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. His replacement, Mike Johnson, came aboard for three major-label albums. Murph eventually quit, with Mascis taking over drum duties on the band's albums before the group disbanded in 1997. The original lineup reformed in 2005, releasing five albums thereafter. Mascis's drawling vocals and distinct guitar sound, hearkening back to 1960s and 1970s classic rock and characterized by extensive use of feedback and distortion, were highly influential in the alternative rock movemen ...
