Colne Town Football Club was an English association football club based in the town of Colne, Lancashire. They played in the Lancashire Combination between 1925 and 1927 and competed in the 1926–27 Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. History The team joined the Lancashire Combination for the 1925–26 season and finished 16th out of 20 teams in their inaugural season. The following campaign, Colne Town finished 19th in the league and subsequently left the Lancashire Combination. In 1926, they entered the FA Cup, the major cup competition in England, for the only time. However, they were knocked out in the Extra Preliminary Round after losing 1–4 at home to Clitheroe. In June 2010, an unrelated amateur team with the same name was formed in Colne. Lancashire Combination
The Lancashire Combination was a football league founded in the North West of England in 1891–92. It absorbed the Lancashire League in 1903. In 1968 the Combination lost five of its clubs to the newly formed Northern Premier League. In 1982 it was finally merged with the Cheshire County League to form the North West Counties League. Colne () is a market town and civil parish in the Borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. Located northeast of Nelson, north-east of Burnley, east of Preston and west of Leeds. The town should not be confused with the unrelated Colne Valley around the River Colne near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Colne is close to the southern entrance to the Aire Gap, the lowest crossing of the Pennine watershed. The M65 terminates west of the town and from here two main roads take traffic onwards towards the Yorkshire towns of Skipton (A56) and Keighley (A6068). The 1926–27 FA Cup was the 52nd staging of the world's oldest football cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Welsh club Cardiff City won the competition for the first time, beating Arsenal 1–0 in the final at Wembley. As of 2022, it is the only FA Cup title won by a club from outside England. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday.
