Colm Callan
Colm Patrick Callan (also known as Colum) (6 January 1923 – 30 May 2010) was an Irish rugby player who played as a second-row forward for Lansdowne Football Club and was part of the Irish rugby team from 1947 to 1949, winning 10 caps. Callan was born in Port, Co Louth Ireland and educated at Castleknock College. Callan played with the Irish team that won their first Grand Slam in the 1948 Five Nations Championship, in all 4 matches. Lansdowne Football Club
Lansdowne Football Club, is a rugby union team based in Dublin, Ireland. Called Football Club instead of Rugby Football Club due to being founded before the formation of the IRFU. It was founded in 1872 by Henry Dunlop as the ''Irish Champion Athletic Club''. Its senior team currently plays in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. The club's playing colours are black, red and yellow hoops, with navy shorts. Lansdowne have won the Leinster Senior Cup a record 29 times, winning it for the first in 1891. Lansdowne won the All Ireland League for the first time in March 2013 and also won the Fraser McMullen cup in the same season. Lansdowne completed the "All Ireland Double" again in May 2015 winning the All Ireland League and the Fraser McMullen again. Castleknock College
Castleknock College () is a voluntary Vincentian secondary school for boys, situated in the residential suburb of Castleknock, west of Dublin city centre, Ireland. Founded in 1835 by Philip Dowley, it is one of the oldest boys' schools in Ireland. Grand Slam (Rugby Union)
In rugby union, a Grand Slam occurs when one team in the Six Nations Championship (or its Five Nations predecessor) beats all the others during one year's competition. This has been achieved 42 times in total, for the first time by Wales in 1908, and most recently by the Irish team in 2023. The team with the most Grand Slams is England with 13. It can also apply to the U20 and Women's Six Nations Championships. In another context, a Grand Slam tour refers to a touring side – South Africa, Australia or New Zealand – which plays fixtures against all four home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) during their tour.
