Collapsus
Collapsus is a project that combines animation, interactive fiction, and documentary film. This story follows how the impending energy crisis affects ten young people, while international powers battle with political dissension and a fearful population during transition from Fossil fuel to alternative fuels. Set in the near future, Collapsus was initialized to raise awareness of the global issue of peak oil. Content The project combines Video blogging, interactive maps, fictional newscasts, live action footage, and animation to immerse the player in the narrative, an example of Transmedia storytelling. The project requires the player to access and assess additional information and make decisions about the world's energy production at both a national and global scale. Lance Weiler
Lance Weiler is an American filmmaker and writer from Pennsylvania, and the Director of the Digital Storytelling Lab at Columbia University School of the Arts. He first was known for '' The Last Broadcast'' (1997), a found footage horror film which he co-wrote, co-produced, co-directed, and co-starred in with Stefan Avalos. ''The Last Broadcast'' made cinematic history on October 23, 1998 as the first all-digital release of motion picture to be stored and forwarded via geosynchronous satellite. Tommy Pallotta
Tommy Pallotta (born May 25, 1968, in Houston, Texas) is an American film director and producer. Biography Pallotta received a degree in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. There, he met Richard Linklater and began his film career as an actor and production assistant on Linklater's directorial debut, ''Slacker'' (1991). After working on numerous films and commercials, Pallotta wrote, directed and produced his first film, ''The High Road'' (1997). An energy crisis or energy shortage is any significant Bottleneck (production), bottleneck in the supply of energy resources to an economy. In literature, it often refers to one of the energy sources used at a certain time and place, in particular, those that supply national electricity grids or those used as fuel in industrial development. Population growth has led to a surge in the global energy demand, demand for energy in recent years. In the 2000s, this new demand – together with Middle East tension, the falling value of the US dollar, dwindling oil reserves, concerns over peak oil, and Oil speculation, oil price speculation – triggered the 2000s energy crisis, which saw the price of oil reach an all-time high of in 2008. A fossil fuel is a flammable carbon compound- or hydrocarbon-containing material formed naturally in the Earth's crust from the buried remains of prehistoric organisms (animals, plants or microplanktons), a process that occurs within geological formations. Peak Oil
Peak oil is the point when global oil production reaches its maximum rate, after which it will begin to decline irreversibly. The main concern is that global transportation relies heavily on gasoline and diesel. Adoption of electric vehicles, biofuels, or more efficient transport (like trains and waterways) could help reduce oil demand. Peak oil relates closely to oil depletion; while petroleum reserves are finite, the key issue is the economic viability of extraction at current prices. Animation
Animation is a filmmaking technique whereby still images are manipulated to create moving images. In traditional animation, images are drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed and exhibited on film. Animation has been recognised as an artistic medium, specifically within the entertainment industry. ''A Scanner Darkly'' is a 2006 American Adult animation, adult animated science fiction thriller film written and directed by Richard Linklater; it is based on the A Scanner Darkly, 1977 novel by Philip K.
