Coll De Banyuls
Coll de Banyuls () is a mountain pass (and a border crossing) between France and Spain in the Albera Massif, the easternmost prolongation of the Pyrenees, helping to connect the Spanish municipality of Rabós (Alt Empordà, Catalonia) with the French commune of Banyuls-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitania). Its saddle point stands at about 357 metres above mean sea level. The pass was blocked with large rocks by the French government on 11 January 2021 and was kept closed under the pretext of "curbing irregular immigration and the terrorist threat". A grassroots organization vowing to open the (closed) border crossings () reopened it on 20 January 2023 by using an excavator. Occitania ( ; ; ) is the southernmost Regions of France, administrative region of metropolitan France excluding Corsica, located on the southwest of the country, created on 1 January 2016 from the former regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées. Albera Massif
The Albera Massif (; ) is a mountain range located in the south of Pyrénées-Orientales and the north of Catalonia, between France and Spain. It is the main easternmost prolongation of the Pyrenees. Its highest peak is the Puig Neulós, with an elevation of 1,256 metres. Most of the southern side of the range is part of the Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional de l'Albera natural reserve. There are some ancient megaliths in the range. The Col du Perthus marks the western boundary of the massif. The massif is at the eastern end of the "Axial Zone" of the Pyrenees mountain range. Pyrenees
The Pyrenees are a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. They extend nearly from their union with the Cantabrian Mountains to Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean coast, reaching a maximum elevation of at the peak of Aneto. For the most part, the main crest forms a divide between Spain and France, with the microstate of Andorra sandwiched in between. In mathematics, a saddle point or minimax point is a Point (geometry), point on the surface (mathematics), surface of the graph of a function where the slopes (derivatives) in orthogonal directions are all zero (a Critical point (mathematics), critical point), but which is not a local extremum of the function.
