Colin Rigby
Colin Rigby is a Scottish former rugby union player and referee. He is the 130th President of the Scottish Rugby Union; the 129th person to hold the office. Rugby Union career Amateur career Rigby played rugby at school. He went to Stewart's Melville College. At the age of 21 an injury ended his playing career and he moved into refereeing the game. Administrative career He became a President of Stewart's Melville from 2012 to 2015. He became a chairman and director of the club from 2015 to 2018. He was elected onto the Scottish Rugby Union council in 2017. He had three years on the SRU board from 2017 to 2020. He was voted a vice-president of the Scottish Rugby Union in 2020. Rigby became the 130th President of the Scottish Rugby Union in 2022. His term in office is scheduled to be from 2022 to 2024. Stewart's Melville RFC
Stewart's Melville RFC is a rugby union club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. They team competes in Scottish National League Division One, the second tier of Scottish club rugby. Home matches are played at Inverleith; this was the venue for Scotland's home games between 1899 and 1925, during which time the first matches against France and New Zealand were played. History The club took on its present form following the merger of Stewart's College FP and Melville College FP in 1973 when the club became known as Stewart's Melville FP RFC. As the name suggests, many of the players in the club's history were former pupils of the Stewart's Melville College (formed in a merger of Daniel Stewart's College and Melville College) in Edinburgh. This remains the case today, although the club is now 'open' and welcomes players who did not attend the school. Ian Barr is a Scottish former rugby union player. He is the 129th President of the Scottish Rugby Union; the 128th person to hold the office. Rugby Union career Amateur career Barr had a number of clubs:- Esk Valley Banthams, Lasswade. West of Scotland, Stirling County, Edinburgh Academicals, Police Scotland, Selkirk, Musselburgh and Lasswade again. While at Musselburgh he suffered an injury which impacted his playing career, which made Barr finish his career at Lasswade. He also played for the East of Scotland College of Agriculture and Oatridge College. Administrative career He became a President of Lasswade and held that position for 15 years. Stewart's Melville College
Stewart's Melville College (SMC) is an independent day and boarding school in Edinburgh, Scotland. Classes are all boys in the 1st to 5th years and co-educational in Sixth (final) year. It has a roll of about 750 pupils. The school is twinned with the Mary Erskine School (MES), an all-girls independent school approximately one mile (1.6 km) from Stewart's Melville College. Origin In 1873, and directly after the Scotland versus England international match, representatives from eight Scottish rugby union sides came together in Glasgow at the Glasgow Academy in Elmbank Street. They decided to form an organisation to develop the sport in Scotland. It was initially called the Scottish Football Union, but changed its name to the Scottish Rugby Union to give clarity from association football. Fred McLeod (2 May 1939 – 25 December 2019) was a Scottish rugby union player. He became the 110th President of the Scottish Rugby Union. Lex Govan
Lex Govan (1914 - July 1996) was a Scottish rugby union player. He was the 92nd President of the Scottish Rugby Union. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played rugby union and cricket for Daniel Stewart's College. On leaving school he played for Stewart's College FP, playing in the 1st XV at the age of 17. He was one of the side that won the 1937-38 Scottish Unofficial Championship; the first championship title in the club's history. During the Second World War he joined the Royal Scots but he was back at Stewart's College FP in 1946 and the club won another championship title. Provincial career Govan played for the Scotland Probables in the 1934-35 season. He was never selected for Scotland; the closest he came was being the reserve hooker in the 1946-47 season.
