Colin Kaline
Colin Michael Kaline (born April 26, 1989) is an American baseball coach and former second baseman and third baseman. He played college baseball at Florida Southern for coaches Pete Meyer and Jim Tyrrell from 2008 to 2011 before playing in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) for 2 seasons from 2011 to 2012. He then served as the head coach of Oakland Golden Grizzlies (2017–2020). Playing career Kaline attended Birmingham Groves High School in Beverly Hills, Michigan. Kaline played for the school's varsity baseball team all four years. The Detroit Tigers selected Kaline in the 25th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. He did not sign, and enrolled at the Florida Southern College, to play college baseball for the Florida Southern Moccasins baseball team. West Michigan Whitecaps
The West Michigan Whitecaps are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. They are located in Comstock Park, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids, and play their home games at LMCU Ballpark. Franchise history The Midwest League came to the Grand Rapids area in 1994 upon the arrival of the former Madison Muskies. The Whitecaps were brought to West Michigan by local businessmen Lew Chamberlin and Dennis Baxter. The Whitecaps were affiliated with the Oakland Athletics before they joined the Tigers' farm system in 1997. Their home ballpark is LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic. 2017 Horizon League Baseball Tournament
The 2017 Horizon League baseball tournament was held from May 24 through 27 at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium in Chicago, home to conference regular-season champion UIC. The top six finishers of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament. UIC won the tournament to earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Seeding and format The league's teams were seeded 1 through 7 based on winning percentage in conference play. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Its most recent membership changes occurred on July 1, 2022 with the departure of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) to the Missouri Valley Conference. Jacke Healey
Jacke Healey (born June 26, 1988) is an American college baseball coach and former shortstop. Healey was the Co-head baseball coach at the Oakland University from 2017 to 2019 with Colin Kaline. Playing career Healey attended Lackawanna Trail High School in Factoryville, Pennsylvania. Healey played for the school's varsity team, varsity baseball team all four years. Healey then enrolled at the Potomac State College of West Virginia University, to play college baseball for the Potomac State Catamounts baseball team. As a freshman at Potomac State in 2007, Healey and the Catamounts were defeated by Spartanburg Methodist College to go to the JUCO World Series. Healey had a .294 batting average (baseball), batting average, hit 4 doubles and a .529 SLG. As a sophomore in 2008, Healey batted .456 with a .823 SLG, 11 home runs, and 48 RBIs.
