Colin Duff
Colin Eric Duff (28 February 1876 – 17 May 1941) was a Rhodesian sportsman who played cricket and rugby union. Duff, who grew up in the Cape Colony, played his early rugby with Western Province, before transferring to Rhodesia, with the help of former England international and Rhodesian administrator William Henry Milton. He competed for the Rhodesian rugby team in the Currie Cup and set a competition record four drop goals in a fixture against Border. The record wasn't beaten until 1992, when Naas Botha booted five drop goals for Northern Transvaal. His elder brother, Benjamin Duff, was a rugby union player as well and was awarded the first ever Springbok cap in 1891. Like his brother, Duff also played first-class cricket. Border Bulldogs
The Border Bulldogs is a South African professional rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup competitions. They are governed by the Border Rugby Union (BRU) and are based in East London. History The Border Rugby Football Union governs rugby in the eastern third of the Eastern Cape province, including two former African homelands, Transkei and Ciskei. Jimmy Sinclair
James Hugh Sinclair (16 October 1876 – 23 February 1913) was a South African cricketer who played in 25 Test matches from 1896 to 1911. He scored South Africa's first three Test centuries and was the first person from any country to score a century and take five wickets in an innings in the same Test. Transvaal Cricket Team
Gauteng (formerly Transvaal) is the first-class cricket team of the southern parts of Gauteng province of South Africa. The team was called ''Transvaal'' from April 1890 to April 1997 (the area north of Johannesburg, including Pretoria being part of the Northerns, formerly ''Northern Transvaal''). Under the main competition's various names – the Currie Cup, then the Castle Cup, now the SuperSport Series – Transvaal/Gauteng cricket team has been the most successful of the South African domestic sides, winning 25 times. SuperSport Series
The CSA 4-Day Domestic Series is the domestic first class cricket competition of South Africa. The tournament is contested by teams from all nine provinces of South Africa. First contested as the Currie Cup from 1889–90, the tournament has undergone many changes and modifications in its history. In 2004, the traditional province based format was replaced, with many teams amalgamating. In its place six entirely professional franchises were created that represented much larger population areas. The competition underwent significant restructuring once again before the start of the 2021–22 season. The six team franchise system was disbanded and the tournament returned to its more traditional format. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Benjamin Duff
Benjamin Robert Duff (16 October 1867 – 25 June 1943) was a South African rugby union international. He also played a first-class cricket match with Western Province. Personal Duff, born in Swellendam, had a brother Colin who represented Rhodesia at cricket and rugby. He married Isabel Watkinson. Cricket career Duff's cricket match was against Natal during the 1889/90 South African cricket season. Although he batted with the tail, at number 10 in both innings, Duff wasn't called on to bowl once in the match. He scored one and eight not out, dismissed by Test player Gus Kempis in the first dig. Western Province's wicket-keeper for this game, Alfred Richards, was also a rugby union international and the duo appeared together in a Test with the South African national rugby union team.
