Colin Clarke (footballer, Born 1946)
Colin Clarke (born 4 April 1946) is a Scottish former professional football player and manager. Clarke, who played as a central defender, spent the majority of his career in England – minus a one-season stint in the North American Soccer League – and made nearly 500 career league appearances. Career Born in Glasgow, Clarke began his career in his native Scotland with Arthurlie, before moving to English giants Arsenal in 1963. Clarke never made a league appearance for Arsenal, and later played for Oxford United, the Los Angeles Aztecs, and Plymouth Argyle before becoming player-manager of Kettering Town. Coaching career Clarke spent three years in charge of Kettering Town. In July 1991, Clarke became assistant manager at Lincoln City. After six months in the role, the club activated a contractual clause to cancel his two-year contract following his failure to relocate his home to Lincoln as agreed. Colin John Clarke (born 30 October 1962) is a Northern Irish retired footballer who played as a forward, and a former head coach. He played for seven English clubs between 1981 and 1993 before retiring through a knee injury, and scored 13 goals in 38 matches for the Northern Ireland national football team from 1986 to 1993. A member of their squad at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, he was joint with Billy Gillespie as Northern Ireland's top scorer of all before their record was surpassed by David Healy. After retiring as a player, Clarke went into management in the United States, coaching teams including Major League Soccer franchise FC Dallas and the Puerto Rico national football team. Colin Clarke is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played as a in the 1960s and 1970s, and coached in the 1980s. He played at representative level for Great Britain, and at club level for Wigan (two spells), Salford and Leigh, and coached at club level for Wigan. Playing career Wigan Clarke joined Wigan at the age of 17 from Orrell rugby union club, making his debut in 1963. Colin Clarke played in Wigan's 20–16 victory over Hunslet in the 1965 Challenge Cup final during the 1964–65 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 8 May 1965, in front of a crowd of 89,016. Wigan returned to Wembley the following year in the 1966 Challenge Cup, but Clarke missed the final due to suspension.
