Colbún is a Public utility, utility company in Chile engaged in the electric power transmission segment. The company was created in 1982 and privatized in 1997. Originally it had only two hydroelectric plants, Machicura and Colbún Hydroelectric Plant, Colbún from where it gets its name. Central San Pedro
Central San Pedro is a controversial energy project that aims to build a hydroelectric power plant in San Pedro River, Los Ríos Region, Chile. The dam and the associated infrastructure of the project would generate total of . The project was halted in 2009 due to problems associated with the geology of the area, but then reactivated in 2019. As of 2019 the municipalities of Panguipulli and Los Lagos, the two most directly affected communes, have rejected the project. The mayor of Los Lagos, among other people, has expressed concerns over the projects impact on tourism and biodiversity. On September 7, 2019, three or more armed persons attacked the temporary installations of the project setting the storehouse ablaze. Within a week Colbún S.A. had responded by filling legal actions against the responsible. HidroAysén (Pronounced: ) was a controversial megaproject that aimed to build five hydroelectric power plants in Chile's Aysén Region, two on the Baker River and three on the Pascua River (with government subvention included to help relief costs). Planned for construction during the 2010s, the project was definitely cancelled by its contractors in November 2017. The total expected installed power was 2,750 MW, generating an average per year, which corresponds to 21% of Central Interconnected System's (SIC) demand by 2020. A 3,000 high-voltage direct current line would have been built between Aysén and the capital Santiago to feed the SIC, including a submarine portion between Chaitén and Puerto Montt.
