Col Colborne
Colin Colborne (3 October 1909 – 9 August 1987) was an Australian politician. He was born in Brisbane to printer and politician William Parry Colborne and Kathleen Mary Davey. He was educated in Brisbane and became a machine compositor, moving to New South Wales and becoming assistant federal secretary of the Printing Industry Employees' Union in 1938. He was federal secretary of the union from 1952 to 1974 and also editor of the Printing Trades Journal. On 19 June 1937 he married Ellen Hindmarsh, with whom he had three children. From 1949 to 1973 he served as a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. Francis Colborne
General Sir Francis Colborne KCB (23 April 1817 – 26 November 1895) was Commander of British Troops in China, Hong Kong and the Straits Settlements. Early years Born in 1817 the second son of John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton and educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey, due to his father's posting between 1821 and 1828 as Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey. Military career Colborne was commissioned into the 15th Regiment of Foot in 1836. He served in the Crimean War in 1855. He was appointed Commander of British Troops in China, Hong Kong and the Straits Settlements in 1874. He commanded the Perak Expedition in 1875 and quickly put down the insurrection taking place in North West Malaysia. He was made a full general on 1 April 1882 and retired in 1883. John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton
Field Marshal John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton, (16 February 1778 – 17 April 1863) was a British Army officer and colonial governor. After taking part as a junior officer in the Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland, Sir Ralph Abercromby's expedition to Egypt and then the War of the Third Coalition, he served as military secretary to Sir John Moore at the Battle of Corunna. He then commanded the 2nd Battalion of the 66th Regiment of Foot and, later, the 52nd Regiment of Foot at many of the battles of the Peninsular War. At the Battle of Waterloo, Colborne on his own initiative brought the 52nd Regiment of Foot forward, took up a flanking position in relation to the French Imperial Guard and then, after firing repeated volleys into their flank, charged at the Guard so driving them back in disorder. Joe Colborne
Joseph William Colborne (born January 30, 1990) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. Colborne was a first round selection, 16th overall, of the Boston Bruins at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, but never played for the team. He was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011 and spent parts of three seasons in the Toronto organization before joining the Calgary Flames in a 2013 trade. After three seasons with the Flames, Colborne signed as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 off-season. He played in the Avalanche organization for parts of two seasons before a concussion abruptly ended his career partway through the 2017–18 season. Nicholas William Ridley-Colborne, 1st Baron Colborne (14 April 1779 – 3 May 1854) was a British politician. Background Born Nicholas Ridley, he was the younger son of Sir Matthew White Ridley, 2nd Baronet, and Sarah (d. 1806), daughter of Benjamin Colborne (see Viscount Ridley for earlier history of the family). In 1803 he assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Colborne. Political career Ridley-Colborne sat as Member of Parliament for Bletchingley from 1805 to 1806, for Malmesbury from 1806 to 1807, for Appleby from 1807 to 1812, for Thetford from 1818 to 1826, for Horsham from 1827 to 1832 and for Wells from 1834 to 1837.
