Colbjørn Helander
Colbjørn Henry Helander (September 7, 1911 – January 13, 1962) was a Norwegian screenwriter and translator. Helander was originally a publisher, but in 1949 he was employed as a literary consultant at Norsk Film. Two years later, he became its managing director. Helander debuted as a screenwriter in 1952 with the film ''Nødlanding''. In addition to his screenplays, he worked as a translator. In 1960 he translated Jack Kerouac's novella ''The Subterraneans'' into Norwegian, publishing it as ''De underjordiske''. Ullern Church (Oslo)
Ullern Church (''Ullern kirke'') is a cruciform Romanesque church on the Holgerslyst property in the Ullern borough of Oslo, Norway. It is the parish church for the Ullern congregation in the Vestre Aker Deanery of the Diocese of Oslo. History The church is built of stone in 1903 and has seating for 800 people. The cruciform structure is dominated by an imposing central tower. The tower is square and has three windows on each side. It is topped by a tall hip roof covered in copper. The church was designed by the architect Harald Bødtker. The original plans for the church had been drawn up by Georg Andreas Bull, Oslo's city surveyor. The plans were reworked by the architect Johan Storm Munch (1862-1947) in 1899 and approved by the municipality. Jack Kerouac
Jean-Louis Lebris de Kérouac (; March 12, 1922 – October 21, 1969), known as Jack Kerouac, was an American novelist and poet who, alongside William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, was a pioneer of the Beat Generation. Of French-Canadian parentage, Kerouac was raised in a French-speaking home in Lowell, Massachusetts. He "learned English at age six and spoke with a marked accent into his late teens." During World War II, he served in the United States Merchant Marine; he completed his first novel at the time, which was published more than 40 years after his death. His first published book was '' The Town and the City'' (1950), and he achieved widespread fame and notoriety with his second, '' On the Road'', in 1957. ''The Subterraneans'' is a 1958 novella by the Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac. It is a semi-fictional account of his short romance with Alene Lee (1931–1991), an African-American woman, in Greenwich Village, New York. It was the first work of Kerouac’s to be released following the success of ''On the Road''. ''The Subterraneans'' and its following novel,'' The Dharma Bums'', both proved to be popular when released in 1958, and are now seen as important works of the Beat Literature. A Hollywood film adaptation would be released in 1960. Background Kerouac met Alene in the late summer of 1953 when she was typing up the manuscripts of William Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, in Ginsberg's Lower East Side apartment. ''I slik en natt'' (On a Night Like This) is a Norwegian war film from 1958 directed by Sigval Maartmann-Moe. It stars Anne-Lise Tangstad. The music was composed by Øivin Fjeldstad. The title ''I slik en natt'' is taken from Henrik Wergeland's poem "Juleaftenen" (Christmas Eve) in his poetry collection '' Jøden'' (The Jew), and the film deals with the Gestapo's search for a group of Jewish children in Oslo and bold action to bring the children to safety. ''Hans Nielsen Hauge'' is a Norwegian film from 1961 directed by Kåre Bergstrøm. It is a dramatization of the life of the lay minister Hans Nielsen Hauge (1771–1824). The film received a lukewarm reception from ''Verdens Gangs reviewer, who gave it three out of six stars. Plot The film opens in 1804, when Crown Prince Regent Frederick is ruling Denmark–Norway. The Royal Danish Chancellery has issued an arrest warrant for Hans Nielsen Hauge. The arrest warrant is sent to all the county governors in Norway, and Hauge is taken to Christiania in irons. The film follows the trial against Hauge. An impression of his past life and work is given in retrospect. The case against Hauge lasted many years because Copenhagen found no reason to hurry. This was a turning point in Norway, and Napoleon was building an empire in Europe. The case was not concluded until 1813.
