Col Firmin
Colin Charles "Col" Firmin (11 April 1940 – 3 March 2013) was a former Australian politician. Firmin served as an Alderman for the City of Darwin from 1976 to 1983 before his preselection by the ruling Country Liberal Party (CLP) for the Electoral division of Ludmilla in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly and his subsequent election at the 1983 Northern Territory election. Firmin was re-elected at the 1987 election but following the abolishing of the Ludmilla electorate in 1990, he lost preselection for the new seat of Brennan to Max Ortmann. Firmin quit the CLP and ran at the 1990 election as an independent but was defeated by Ortmann. Alderman
An alderman is a member of a municipal assembly or council in many jurisdictions founded upon English law. The term may be titular, denoting a high-ranking member of a borough or county council, a council member chosen by the elected members themselves rather than by popular vote, or a council member elected by voters. 1990 Northern Territory General Election
A general election was held in the Northern Territory on Saturday 27 October 1990, and was won by the incumbent Country Liberal Party (CLP) under Chief Minister Marshall Perron. The CLP's political strategy for the campaign, devised by the Chief Minister's media secretary, Tony-Barker May, involved attacking the opposition ALP's policy platform, and using the costings as the basis of a 'where's the money coming from?' media assault. Although the Chief Minister was ill for much of the campaign, government ministers made challenging statements every day. Buddina is a coastal suburb of Kawana Waters in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Buddina had a population of 3,885 people. Geography Buddina includes the business district of the Kawana Waters urban centre. The eastern half of Buddina fronts the Coral Sea with a long stretch of beaches, whilst the western half of the suburb is a canal neighbourhood. History The suburb was named by the Queensland Place Names Board on 1 September 1967. The name was proposed by the land developer Alfred Grant Pty Ltd. The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. Brennan is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 1990 as a replacement for the abolished seat of Ludmilla, and derives its name from Harold "Tiger" Brennan, a former member of the Legislative Council and Mayor of Darwin. Brennan includes both rural and urban areas, covering an area of 5 km2 and encompassing the Palmerston suburbs of Bakewell, Gunn, Farrar, as well as part of Rosebery. There were 5,746 people enrolled in the electorate as of August 2020. Palmerston has long been one of the heartlands of the Country Liberal Party. A general election was held in the Northern Territory, Australia on Saturday 7 March 1987. Although the incumbent Country Liberal Party (CLP) won a majority under new leader Stephen Hatton, the party's vote was down almost 20 percentage points. At the 1987 election, the CLP faced a challenge from the Northern Territory Nationals, a rebel conservative party led by former CLP Chief Minister Ian Tuxworth that was aligned with then-Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen, but not affiliated with the federal National Party of Australia.
