Col. John Streett House
The Col. John Streett House is a historic home located at Street, Harford County, Maryland, United States. It is a Federal style home composed of three brick sections, two of which are original and one a late 19th-century addition. The original dwelling built about 1805, consists of a -story, five-bay, gable-roofed main section and a 2-story, two-bay attached kitchen. The kitchen wing section has two unequal-sized rooms on the ground floor and a large loft room above, reached by a closed, corner stair. The home is named for Colonel John Streett (1762-1837), a man prominent in local politics and a hero of the War of 1812 who led Harford's 7th Regiment Cavalry at the Battle of North Point.John R. Street, Maryland
Street is a rural unincorporated community in northern Harford County, Maryland, United States. One of the central villages in Street is Highland. The village had a station stop on the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad, at milepost 38.6, which served farms within the area until it ceased passenger service in 1954, then terminated freight service in 1958. The post office for Street, Maryland is located in the village of Highland. The village was once home to Highland High School, which later became Highland Elementary School. Highland Elementary School was shut down when the North Harford Elementary School was opened. The large building has other community purposes now, including the alternative Highlands School, Mason-Dixon Community Service, Highland Senior Center and the Street post office. Gable
A gable is the generally triangular portion of a wall between the edges of intersecting roof pitches. The shape of the gable and how it is detailed depends on the structural system used, which reflects climate, material availability, and aesthetic concerns. John Streett
John Streett (1762 – 1836/1837) was an American politician and military officer from Maryland. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Harford County from 1799 to 1800 and from 1805 to 1812. He served as a lieutenant colonel during the War of 1812. Early life John Streett was born in 1762 at "Streett's Hunting Ground" near Rocks, Harford County, Maryland, to Elizabeth and Thomas Streett Jr. His father emigrated from England. Career In 1799, Streett was commissioned as justice of the peace by Maryland's governor and council. Streett served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Harford County, serving from 1799 to 1800 and from 1805 to 1812.
