Coffin Break
Coffin Break was a hardcore punk band from Seattle, Washington. History Coffin Break was formed in Seattle in the late-1980s, at the start of the grunge era. The group released its first two full-length albums and a compilation on C/Z Records. Signing to Epitaph Records, they released two further albums in 1991 and 1992 before disbanding in late 1993. Both bassist Rob Skinner and guitarist Peter Litwin wrote songs for the group, and the group's releases show a marked difference between their songwriting styles. Kurt Cobain mentioned the group as one of his favorite bands. Review of ''No Sleep 'Til the Stardust Motel'' Allmusic. The band appeared in the 1996 documentary Hype!, directed by Doug Pray, with a short clip of a live version of their song ''Kill The President''. Doug Pray is an American documentary film director, producer, editor, and cinematographer who often explores subcultures in his films. In January, 2024, Turner Classic Movies , Turner Classic Movies (TCM) released a 6-part series, ''“The Power of Film”'' featuring Pray's former teacher and mentor, UCLA Professor Howard Suber. C/Z Records was a Seattle-based punk rock record label established in early 1985 by Chris Hanzsek and Tina Casale. It started with the release of '' Deep Six'', which collected early recordings of what later came to be known as grunge. After ''Deep Six'' proved commercially unsuccessful, Hanzsek and Casale sold the label to Daniel House. History The label was first founded in early 1985 by Chris Hanzsek and Tina Casale. The compilation ''More Songs About Anger, Fear, Sex & Death'' was released in 1992 through Epitaph Records. History and musical style The album was produced and compiled by Brett Gurewitz, guitarist and songwriter of Bad Religion and founder of the independent record label Epitaph in 1981. Other contributors were Donnell Cameron for engineering, since 1988 partner of Gurewitz in the Westbeach Recorders Studio in Hollywood, and Jack Endino, who produced the Songs of Coffin Break in the Reciprocal Recording Studio in Seattle in 1990. In 1992 Epitaph Records was still a small label with few employees, so in addition to Brett Gurewitz at others Jay Bentley and Jeff Abarta. The compilation contains one or two tracks from every publication released by Epitaph at this time. "Beth" is a ballad by American rock band Kiss, originally released on their fourth studio album ''Destroyer'' (1976). “Beth” was published as a single by Casablanca Records in August 1976, after releasing it as the B-side of " Detroit Rock City". "Beth" is Kiss's biggest commercial hit in the United States, reaching #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, receiving a Gold Record certification from the RIAA, and winning the 1977 People's Choice Award for "Favorite Song".
