Code Black (film)
''Code Black'' is a documentary directed by Ryan McGarry in 2013 that follows the lives of young physicians in the Los Angeles General Medical Center Emergency department. These young residents stand up for medicine in a broken healthcare system. This film enters one of America's busiest emergency rooms where new challenges arise as the young residents try to live up to the previous doctors in the legendary C-booth. The film was adapted by Michael Seitzman into the CBS medical drama '' Code Black'' (2015–2018). Synopsis This documentary is inspired by the lives of young physicians during their residency with at "C-booth" in the Los Angeles County Hospital trauma bay. The film begins in a chaotic, small room swarming with doctors, nurses and severely injured patients called C-booth. Ryan McGarry (physician)
Ryan McGarry is an American writer, director, cinematographer and emergency physician who directed the documentary ''Code Black''. ''Code Black'' is the basis for the TV series '' Code Black''. He also co-created and directed the Emmy nominated series Pandemic for Netflix Education and training McGarry grew up in Irvine, CA. He studied at the Pennsylvania State University where he obtained a B.A. with a major in English in 2005, then attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine until 2009. As a med student at the University of Pittsburgh, McGarry participated in a four-week emergency medicine clerkship and research rotation at LA County/USC Medical Center. LA Film Festival
The LA Film Festival was an annual film festival that was held in Los Angeles, California, and usually took place in June. It showcased independent, international, feature, documentary and short films, as well as web series, music videos, episodic television and panel conversations. Since 2001, it had been run by the nonprofit Film Independent, which since 1985 has also produced the annual Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica. The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is an international film festival founded in 1992, by Joyce Robinson. The festival has since taken place every year in East Hampton, New York. Myocardial Infarction
A myocardial infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to the coronary artery of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle. The most common symptom is chest pain or discomfort which may travel into the shoulder, arm, back, neck or jaw. Often it occurs in the center or left side of the chest and lasts for more than a few minutes. The discomfort may occasionally feel like heartburn. Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, nausea, feeling faint, a cold sweat or feeling tired. About 30% of people have atypical symptoms. Women more often present without chest pain and instead have neck pain, arm pain or feel tired. Among those over 75 years old, about 5% have had an MI with little or no history of symptoms. Appendicitis
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. Symptoms commonly include right lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and decreased appetite. However, approximately 40% of people do not have these typical symptoms. Severe complications of a ruptured appendix include widespread, painful inflammation of the inner lining of the abdominal wall and sepsis. Appendicitis is caused by a blockage of the hollow portion of the appendix. This is most commonly due to a calcified "stone" made of feces. Inflamed lymphoid tissue from a viral infection, parasites, gallstone, or tumors may also cause the blockage. This blockage leads to increased pressures in the appendix, decreased blood flow to the tissues of the appendix, and bacterial growth inside the appendix causing inflammation.
