Cockshutt 570
The Cockshutt 570 row-crop tractor was built by the Cockshutt Plow Company, from 1958 to 1960. It succeeded the Cockshutt 50 heavy tractor in the Cockshutt product line, and was capable of pulling five plows. The new tractor was restyled in accordance with the trend toward squared-off lines, compared to earlier Cockshutt offerings. Description and production The Cockshutt 570 succeeded the Cockshutt 50 as a heavy row-crop tractor. In accordance with industry trends of the early 1960s, the 570 was styled with squared-off lines by industrial designer Raymond Loewy. The 570 was powered by a Hercules Engine Company six-cylinder diesel engine with a six-speed transmission. Cockshutt 50
The Cockshutt 50 row-crop tractor was a row-crop tractor produced by the Cockshutt Plow Company, from 1953 to 1957. It was the largest of a series of Canadian-produced tractors that started with the Cockshutt 30, and was based on the Cockshutt 40 with a more powerful engine. The 50 was a large four or five-plow tractor for general use. The 50 was sold in the United States as the CO-OP E5. Description and production The Cockshutt 50 was essentially a heavier Cockshutt 40 with a more powerful engine. The tractor was styled in the same streamlined manner as the original 30 by Canadian architect Charles Brooks. Cockshutt Plow Company
Cockshutt was a large agricultural machinery manufacturer, known as Cockshutt Farm Equipment Limited (1957–1962), based in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Founded as the Brantford Plow Works by James G. Cockshutt in 1877, the name was changed to the Cockshutt Plow Company when it was incorporated in 1882. After James died shortly thereafter, his brother William Foster Cockshutt took over as president. He remained until 1888, when another brother, Frank Cockshutt, became president of the company. In 1910, Henry Cockshutt, the youngest of the brothers, took over the leadership of the company. Under his direction, the company was able to obtain financing for acquisitions and expansion. Raymond Loewy ( , ; November 5, 1893 – July 14, 1986) was a French-born American industrial designer who achieved fame for the magnitude of his design efforts across a variety of industries. He was recognized for this by ''Time'' magazine and featured on its cover on October 31, 1949. He spent most of his professional career in the United States, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1938. Hercules Engine Corporation was an American engine manufacturer located in Canton, Ohio. History The company was founded in 1915, known at first as Hercules Motor Manufacturing Company, to build industrial engines, especially for trucks. The company reincorporated and reorganized in 1923, emerging as Hercules Motors Corporation. Hercules expanded greatly in the interwar period, developing gas and diesel engines, serving the needs for truck, tractor and a plethora of equipment operators. During World War II the company produced about 750,000 gasoline and diesel engines for Allied military vehicles, ships, and various equipment. Brantford ( 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River in Southwestern Ontario.
