Cochlespiridae
Cochlespiridae is a taxonomic family of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Conoidea. This family is not well differentiated morphologically, and there is poor congruence between the molecular and shell characters. Its limits are uncertain. Even the contents of most of the genera are in need of revision. The family is composed of some genera that used to belong to the subfamily Cochlespirinae, in the family Turridae. This family has no subfamilies. General characteristics This family consists of moderately sized shells, usually between 20 and 30 mm, but in '' Nihonia maxima'' the length of shell can reach 128 mm. The shell of ''Aforia magnifica'' even reaches 150 mm. The shell is turriculated and fusiform with a long, sharp spire. Axial sculpture is absent or feebly developed. The aperture is ovate. The columellar margin is smoot. The outer lip has a narrow profound anal sinus on the subsutural ramp. The open siphonal canal is long ...

Turridae
Turridae is a taxonomic family name for a number of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Conoidea. MolluscaBase (2018). Turridae H. Adams & A. Adams, 1853 (1838). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=152 on 2018-07-22 The family name Turridae was originally given to a very large group of several thousand sea snail species that were thought to be closely related. The family was described with about 700 genus-group taxa and an estimated 10,000 recent and fossil species. However, that original grouping was discovered to be polyphyletic. In recent years, the family Turridae has been much reduced in size, because a number of other families were created to contain the monophyletic lineages that had previously been thought to belong in the same family. The common name ''turrids'' is still used informally to refer to the polyphyletic group. Distribution Species in the family ...

Fusiturricula
''Fusiturricula'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Drilliidae. Taxonomy The genus ''Fusiturricula'' (together with '' Cruziturricula'') forms an unsupported group that is sister clade to Drilliidae in the cladogram of the molecular phylogeny of the Conoidea.. The type species of ''Fusiturricula'', ''Turris fusinella'' Dall, 1908, is even different from what is currently conceived as belonging to that genus, but those species are similar to ''Cruziturricula'' ''sensu auctt.'' Although ''Fusiturricula'' (and ''Cruziturricula'') definitely do not belong in the family Drilliidae (they may represent a new family), they are assigned in the Drilliidae provisionally as a working hypothesis. This genus is included in the family ''Cochlespiridae'' by the website gastropods.com Species Species within the genus ''Fusiturricula'' include: * † ''Fusiturricula acra'' (Woodring, 1970) (synonym: ''Pleurofusia acra'' Woodring, 1970) * '' Fusiturricula andre ...

Cochlespira
''Cochlespira'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Cochlespiridae. Description The species in this genus are characterized by their elongated fusiform spire and a long siphonal canal. The whorls show on their edge spinose projections. The shell is moderate in size, with a subacute, few whorled, glassy protoconch. It has an elongated slender, straight siphonal canal. The whorls are tabulated by a sharp recurved spinose or beaded keel, between which and the suture the surface is concave, nearly smooth. The anal sulcus is deep, narrow, the fasciole separated from the suture by a beaded ridge, the outer margin of the fasciole not elevated. Type † ''Pleurotoma cristata'' Conrad, 1848. Oligocene fossil. This group is extremely close to ''Ancistrosyrinx'' Dall, 1881, the latter differing only by having the anal sulcus at the suture, with no intervening ridge, while the outer margin of the fasciole has an elevated lamella between which and the reflec ...

The anal sulcus is shallow and more or less rounded, usually situated some distance from the suture, but not quite on the periphery of the whorl.
