Cobra Strike II
''Cobra Strike II: Y, Y+B, X+Y ←'' is the second album by Buckethead's side project Cobra Strike. In addition to Buckethead and DJ Disk, this album features a completely different cast of musicians. The term "cobra strike" was inspired by the video game '' G.I. Joe: Cobra Strike'' (1983). Artwork for the album features cobras as seen in the game. The music is similar to their first album, ''The 13th Scroll'' and includes several sound samples from movies, most notably El Topo ( «Desert» and «First Master» ) and Phantasm ( « The Funeral » ) . The title and the content of « Yoshimitsu's Den» is a reference to a game character for the Tekken series of fighting games. Experimental Rock
Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Artists aim to liberate and innovate, with some of the genre's distinguishing characteristics being improvisational performances, avant-garde influences, odd instrumentation, opaque lyrics (or instrumentals), unorthodox structures and rhythms, and an underlying rejection of commercial aspirations. Travis Dickerson
Travis Dickerson is an American musician and producer best known for his work with Buckethead and Viggo Mortensen. He also runs TDRS music, a recording studio with its own record label that has released albums by Bill Laswell, Jethro Tull, Linda Ronstadt, and Vince DiCola. Dickerson can be heard playing keyboards on many albums he has recorded and produced. Career Dickerson built his first recording studio in Michigan, where he began writing and recording songs. Soon after, he moved the studio to Chatsworth, Los Angeles, where he met the punk band X and helped them record a number of albums. Vocalist Exene Cervenka introduced Dickerson to Viggo Mortensen, starting a long friendship. Nearly all of Mortensen's albums since then have been recorded or distributed by TDRS. ''The 13th Scroll'' is the first album by American avant-garde metal band Cobra Strike, released in 1999. In addition to lead member Buckethead, the album features drums by Pinchface, with additional drum programming by Bryan "Brain" Mantia and DJ Disk. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Brian Patrick Carroll (born May 13, 1969), known professionally as Buckethead, is an American guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He has received critical acclaim for his innovative electric guitar playing. His music spans several genres, including progressive metal, funk, blues, bluegrass, ambient, and avant-garde music. DJ Disk
DJ Disk is a turntablist from the San Francisco Bay Area. He is of Panamanian, Colombian, and Nicaraguan descent. Born Luis Quintanilla on October 7, 1970, in San Francisco, Disk began scratching and mixing vinyl at a young age. In 1992, he joined his long-time friend DJ Qbert among the Rock Steady Crew DJs, later changing the group's name to the Invisibl Skratch Piklz. As a founding member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Disk has been an enormously influential DJ and is credited with inventing the 2 Click Orbit, the echo fade technique and the 2 Click Flare Lazer Orbit techniques. He was later a founding member of El Stew, which, according to Allmusic, "dealt with the more experimental side of electronic music." El Topo
''El Topo'' (, "The Mole") is a 1970 Mexican acid Western art film written, scored, directed by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. Characterized by its bizarre characters and occurrences, use of maimed and dwarf performers, and heavy doses of Judeo-Christian symbolism and Eastern philosophy, the film is about "El Topo"—a violent, black-clad gunfighter played by Jodorowsky himself—and his quest for enlightenment. Plot "El Topo" is traveling through a desert on horseback with his naked young son, Hijo. Phantasm (film)
''Phantasm'' is a 1979 American science fantasy horror film that was directed, written, photographed, and edited by Don Coscarelli. The first film in the ''Phantasm'' franchise, it introduces the Tall Man ( Angus Scrimm), a supernatural and malevolent undertaker who turns the dead of Earth into dwarf zombies to be sent to his planet and used as slaves. He is opposed by a young boy, Mike (Michael Baldwin), who tries to convince his older brother Jody (Bill Thornbury) and family friend Reggie ( Reggie Bannister) of the threat. ''Phantasm'' was a locally financed independent film; the cast and crew were mostly amateurs and aspiring professionals.
