Coast Unified School District
Coast Unified School District is located on the Central Coast of the US state of California in the community of Cambria, California, Cambria. The district consists of one K-5 elementary school, one 6–8 middle school, one traditional 9–12 high school and one alternative high school. There are approximately 500 students enrolled K-12. It includes Cambria and San Simeon, California, San Simeon (to the north of Cambria) for grades PK-12, and almost all of Cayucos, California, Cayucos (to the south) for grades 9-12 only. Cambria, California
Cambria () is a seaside village in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California State Route 1 (Highway 1). The name Cambria, chosen in 1869, is the Latin name for Wales (Welsh, ''Cymru''). Cambria is situated amidst Monterey pines in one of only three such native forests. The town previously had gone by the names of Slabtown, Rosaville, San Simeon, and Santa Rosa. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined the unincorporated community as a census-designated place (CDP). The CDP of Cambria had a population of 5,678 at the 2020 census, down from 6,032 at the 2010 census. San Simeon, California
San Simeon ( Spanish: ''San Simeón'', meaning "St. Simon") is an unincorporated community on the Pacific coast of San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. Its position along State Route 1 is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, each of those cities being roughly away. A key feature of the area is Hearst Castle, a hilltop mansion built for William Randolph Hearst in the early 20th century that is now a tourist attraction. The area is also home to a large northern elephant seal rookery, known as the Piedras Blancas rookery, located north of San Simeon on Highway 1. History Humans first settled the local area at least 11,000 years ago. Prehistorically, the local area was inhabited by the Chumash people, including a large village south of San Simeon at Morro Creek. Cayucos (Spanish for "Canoes") is an unincorporated coastal town in San Luis Obispo County, California, along California State Route 1 between Cambria to the north and Morro Bay to the south. The population was 2,505 at the 2020 census, down from 2,592 at the 2010 census. History The area was settled by the Chumash people approximately 11000 to 10000 BC.
