Coast AM
Heart Kent (previously Invicta FM) was an Independent Local Radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Heart network. It broadcast to Kent from studios at John Wilson Business Park in Whitstable. History Invicta in the 80s Originally, independent local radio in Kent was to be provided by two franchisees, one covering Maidstone and Medway, and the other covering East Kent. The companies that were awarded the licences to broadcast to these areas were Northdown Radio and Network East Kent respectively. The two companies merged on 26 March 1984. The company's new name was taken from a failed bid for the East Kent licence, owned by former Radio 2 presenter Desmond Carrington, Radio Invicta Ltd. The new countywide station went on air as Invicta Sound at 6am on 1 October 1984. Dream 100 was an Independent Local Radio station owned and operated by Bauer. It broadcast to Tendring and Essex from studios in Colchester and Ipswich, airing the same music programming as sister station Town 102. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio East, as part of a rebrand and merger, on 1 September 2020. History The station was founded as medium wave outlet Mellow 1557 on 1557 kHz in 1990. The station launched on 7 October 1990 as an easy listening station for Tendring. In 1992 Southern Radio PLC acquired Mellow, as part of a reverse takeover by the Invicta Radio Group, making it part of the same company that owned Invicta FM, Ocean FM, Southern FM, Invicta Supergold and South Coast Radio. Frinton
Frinton-on-Sea is a seaside town and (as just Frinton) a former civil parish, now in the parish of Frinton and Walton, in the Tendring district of Essex, England. In 2018 it had an estimated population of 4,837. History The place-name 'Frinton' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as ''Frientuna''. The name may mean 'fenced-in or enclosed town or settlement'. Until late Victorian times, Frinton-on-Sea was a church, several farms and a handful of cottages. Caesar The Geezer
Chris Ryder, (born Chris Neophytou in ) also known as Caesar the Geezer, Caesar the Boogieman, and Deck Rider, is a British radio personality. Early career He began his career as the on air character "Deck Rider" on the ''Kenny Everett Radio Show'' on Capital Radio (London) in 1974. He went from there to London pirate station, Skyline Radio, and then on to get his first "paid gig" on the ''Rod Lucas Show'' on BBC Radio Kent. Shortly afterwards they both moved to the newly created Invicta Radio. Invicta FM Ryder later changed his radio name to Caesar the Boogieman when he landed his own show on Invicta Radio after Rod Lucas left the station. Caesar the Boogieman orchestrated some ambitious on-air practical jokes during his time at Invicta. Capital Gold
The Capital Gold radio station started in London in 1988 on Capital Radio's AM frequency, after the Independent Broadcasting Authority had urged stations to end simulcasting (broadcasting the same programmes simultaneously on AM and FM) and threatened to remove one of their frequencies if simulcasting continued. The original DJs on the early incarnation of Capital Gold included Tony Blackburn, Kenny Everett and David Hamilton. The hiring of radio personalities to host networked shows continued to be a feature of the Capital Gold network as it grew. The Southern Radio Group was a company which owned and operated radio stations on the south coast of England. History Southern Radio Group was formed when Ocean Sound merged with Southern FM. Later, in 1992, Invicta FM and its AM services Invicta SuperGold in Kent, and Mellow 1557 in Essex joined the group as a result of a reverse takeover by the Invicta Radio Group. In 1994, Capital Radio purchased Southern Radio plc, which included Ocean Sound. It has made more radio jingles than any other jingle company and has become part of American pop culture. Supergold (Europe) was an oldies radio sustaining service originally operated by the Telstar Satellite Music Network (TSMN) and later by Chiltern Radio Network in the United Kingdom.
