Coalyard Miniature Railway
The Coalyard Miniature Railway, opened in 1988, and relaid in 1990 as a gauge railway, operates in the grounds of the Severn Valley Railway’s Kidderminster Town railway station, Kidderminster Town Station. History The railway started as of Dual gauge, dual gauge track comprising gauge rails laid within gauge rails, to permit operation of both a GWR 6000 Class, King Class Locomotive and a GWR 4900 Class, Hall class locomotive. The track was unusual in being constructed of Rail tracks#Continuous welded rail, continuously welded rails. In 1990 a new gauge aluminium track was laid and then gradually extended until it reached the far end of the Kidderminster Town Station car park. The original line was then removed, making space for a new footpath from the Severn Valley Railway car park to the station. Kidderminster is a large market and historic minster town and civil parish in Worcestershire, England, south-west of Birmingham and north of Worcester. Located north of the River Stour and east of the River Severn, in the 2011 census, it had a population of 55,530. The town is twinned with Husum, Germany. Severn Valley Railway
The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England. The heritage line runs along the Severn Valley from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route, and crossing the river on the historic Victoria Bridge. Kidderminster Town Railway Station
Kidderminster Town is a railway station situated in the town of Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. It is operated by the Severn Valley Railway, a heritage line which runs from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth. The station was opened on 30 July 1984, was built in a late Victorian style, and shares its station approach and car park with the adjacent National Rail station. In railway engineering, " gauge" is the transverse distance between the inner surfaces of the heads of two rails, which for the vast majority of railway lines is the number of rails in place. GWR 6000 Class
The Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 Class or King Class is a class of 4-6-0 steam locomotives designed for express passenger work and introduced in 1927. They were the largest locomotives built by the GWR, apart from the unique Pacific ( ''The Great Bear''). The class was named after kings of the United Kingdom and of England, beginning with the then reigning monarch, King George V, and going back through history. GWR 4900 Class
The Great Western Railway 4900 Class or Hall Class is a class of 4-6-0 mixed-traffic steam locomotives designed by Charles Collett for the Great Western Railway. A total of 259 were built at Swindon Works, numbered 4900–4999, 5900–5999 and 6900–6958. The LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 and LNER Thompson Class B1 both drew heavily on design features of the Hall Class. Ian Allan Publishing was an English publisher, established in 1942, which specialised in transport books. It was founded by Ian Allan (publisher), Ian Allan.
