Clover Point
Clover Point is a waterfront adjacent park in Victoria, British Columbia. The park contains of land and faces the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It was originally named by James Douglas in 1842 through a letter to John McLoughlin. The park was closed to the public from 1900 to 1930, as well as for the duration of World War 2 for use by the Canadian military. The park's ownership was transferred from the military to the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria in 1988. A redesign of the park was proposed in 2021 and then implemented. Edward Gibbon Wakefield
Edward Gibbon Wakefield (20 March 179616 May 1862) was an English politician in colonial Canada and New Zealand. He is considered a key figure in the establishment of the colonies of South Australia and New Zealand (where he later served as a member of parliament). He also had significant interests in British North America, being involved in the drafting of Lord Durham's Report and being a member of the Parliament of the Province of Canada for a short time. He was best known for his colonisation scheme, sometimes referred to as the Wakefield scheme or the Wakefield system, which aimed to populate the new colony of South Australia with a workable combination of labourers, tradespeople, artisans and capital. Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is a 75 ha (183 acre) park located along the shore of Juan de Fuca Strait in Victoria, British Columbia that is popular both with tourists and locals. The park contains a number of amenities including woodland and shoreline trails, two playgrounds, a waterpark, playing fields, a petting zoo, tennis and pickleball courts, many ponds, and landscaped gardens. The name of the park refers to Beacon Hill, a hill located at the park's southern end. The traditional name of the hill is míqәn (pronounced "MEE-qan", sometimes spelled Meegan or Meeacan) to the Songhees people, meaning "warmed by the sun". History míqәn (Beacon Hill) was a popular location for local indigenous peoples to rest and play games, and where Camassia quamash, camas and Camassia leichtlinii, great camas bulbs were harvested.
