Clive Chitumba
Clive Chitumba (born 11 February 1995) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Mountaineers in the 2016–17 Logan Cup on 6 May 2017. He made his List A debut for Mountaineers in the 2016–17 Pro50 Championship on 2 June 2017. In December 2020, he was selected to play for the Mountaineers in the 2020–21 Logan Cup. He made his Twenty20 Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Mountaineers Cricket Team
The Mountaineers is one of five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in the Manicaland and Mashonaland East area. They play their home matches at Mutare Sports Club in Mutare. Franchise History Following the decline of the standards of cricket in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Cricket decided to use a new set of teams for all the first-class, List A and Twenty20 formats of the domestic game. A total of 5 franchises were named, and the Mountaineers team was based in Manicaland. 2009-10 Logan Cup On their debut in this tournament, Mountaineers finished in third place in the group, with three wins from twelve games. 2016–17 Logan Cup
The 2016–17 Logan Cup was the 23rd edition of the Logan Cup, a first-class cricket competition in Zimbabwe. It was held between December 2016 and May 2017. Mountaineers won the tournament, following a draw against Mashonaland Eagles in round 8 of the competition. Originally, the tournament was scheduled to be played across twelve rounds, with each team playing each other four times. However, the start of the tournament was postponed because of logistical challenges, with the opening matches rescheduled to take place a week later than originally planned. The opening fixture between Mid West Rhinos and Matabeleland Tuskers was interrupted at the start of day three with a strike by the players. The protest was led by domestic players, as they had not been paid in November. Matabeleland Tuskers forfeited the second innings of the match, and therefore Mid West Rhinos won the game. List A Cricket
List A cricket is a classification of the limited-overs (one-day) form of the sport of cricket, with games lasting up to eight hours. List A cricket includes One Day International (ODI) matches and various domestic competitions in which the number of overs in an innings per team ranges from forty to sixty, as well as some international matches involving nations who have not achieved official ODI status. 2016–17 Pro50 Championship
The 2016–17 Pro50 Championship was the fifteenth edition of the Pro50 Championship, a List A cricket tournament in Zimbabwe. The competition ran from 10 February to 6 June 2017. It was originally scheduled to start in May, but was brought forward to February in preparation for Zimbabwe's One Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. The opening fixtures replaced the scheduled fixtures in the Logan Cup, which were rescheduled for later in the competition. 2020–21 Logan Cup
The 2020–21 Logan Cup was the 27th edition of the Logan Cup, a first-class cricket competition in Zimbabwe, which started on 9 December 2020. After originally scheduled to start on 3 December 2020, the tournament was moved back a week to allow time to setup a bio-secure bubble. Five teams took part in the competition, including the Southern Rocks, who last played in the 2013–14 tournament. There was no defending champion, after the previous tournament was voided due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Four matches were played during December 2020. However, on 3 January 2021, Zimbabwe Cricket halted all cricket in the country following a rise in COVID-19 cases. In mid-March 2021, it was reported that the tournament would resume later that month, with the next round of matches starting on 18 March 2021. Twenty20
Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the county cricket, inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 over (cricket), overs. Together with first-class cricket, first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. 2020–21 Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition
The 2020–21 Zimbabwe Domestic Twenty20 Competition was a Twenty20 cricket tournament that was played in Zimbabwe during April 2021. Five teams took part in the competition, with two matches being played each day. Due to a logistical challenge, the opening day match between Tuskers and Rhinos was moved back to 15 April, with the play-off and final being moved back one day as a result. The Matabeleland Tuskers won the last domestic T20 tournament to be played in Zimbabwe, during the 2018–19 season.
