Clissold (ward)
} Clissold is a ward in the London Borough of Hackney. The name is derived from Clissold Crescent and the ward also borders Clissold Park in the neighbouring Lordship (ward), Lordship ward both of which form part of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington (UK Parliament constituency), Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 London local elections, 1964 elections. The boundaries of the ward from May 2014 are revised and will take in Clissold Park. Clissold has the highest percentage of residents cycling to work of all wards in London. At the 2011 Census this ward had a population of 12,212. Hackney London Borough Council is the local government authority for the London Borough of Hackney, London, England, one of 32 London borough councils. The council is unusual in the United Kingdom local government system in that its executive function is controlled by a directly elected mayor of Hackney, currently Philip Glanville of the Labour Party. Hackney comprises 19 wards, each electing three councillors. Following the May 2018 election, Hackney London Borough Council consists of 52 Labour Party councillors and 5 Conservative Party councillors. GSS Coding System
GSS codes are nine-character geocodes maintained by the United Kingdom's Office for National Statistics (ONS) to represent a wide range of geographical areas of the UK, for use in tabulating census and other statistical data. GSS refers to the Government Statistical Service of which ONS is part. GSS codes replaced a previous system called ONS codes from January 2011. ONS codes were hierarchical whereas in GSS codes there is no relation between the code for a lower-tier area and the corresponding parent area. Clissold Park
Clissold Park is an open space in Stoke Newington, in the London Borough of Hackney. It is bounded by Greenway Close (to the north), Church Street (south), Green Lanes (west) and Queen Elizabeth's Walk (east); the south-east corner abuts St Mary's Old Church, now an arts venue. The park is 22.57 hectares (55.8 acres) in extent. The main building within its boundaries is the Grade II listed Clissold House, run as a cafe and events venue. The park's facilities include children's playgrounds, sports fields, a bowling green, a skatepark bowl, tennis courts, and a paddling pool. Other attractions include an aviary with assorted captive species, an enclosure of deer and goats, a butterfly dome, and two small lakes hosting wild ducks, geese, swans and other water birds. Lordship was a ward in the London Borough of Hackney and area forms part of the Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency. The ward returns three councillors to Hackney London Borough Council, with elections every four years. At the 2010 London local elections, previous election on 6 May 2010 Bernard Aussenberg (Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party), and Labour Party (UK), Labour Party candidateEdward Brown and Daniel Stevens were returned. Hackney North and Stoke Newington is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom since 1987 by Diane Abbott of the Labour Party, who served as Shadow Home Secretary from 6 October 2016 to 5 April 2020. Abbott was one of the first three Black British MPs elected, and the first female Black British MP in the UK. 1964 London Local Elections
The 1964 London local elections were held on 7 May 1964. They were the inaugural elections for the thirty-two London boroughs, which were created on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963. All seats were up for election, with polling stations open between 08:00 and 21:00. The result was a landslide for the Labour Party, who won twenty of the boroughs. The Conservatives won nine, and three were under no overall control. Only sixteen Liberal councillors were elected in London, along with forty-nine residents and ratepayers candidates, three independents and three Communists. The result followed the convincing Labour gain of the new Greater London Council in the first GLC elections which had been held on 9 April. The 2022 Hackney London Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. All 57 members of Hackney London Borough Council were up for election. 2010 London Local Elections
Local government elections took place in London, and some other parts of the United Kingdom on Thursday 6 May 2010. Polling stations were open between 7am and 10pm. Despite losing 6 Parliamentary seats in London in the General Election conducted on the same day, London Labour's share of the vote, council seats and control of Councils rose substantially. 10 councils swung to Labour control, and the party gained 190 council seats. Support for the London Conservatives in the capital declined by 3%, with the party losing 3 councils and 68 councillors. The London Liberal Democrats increased their vote share slightly but lost 70 councillors, as well as losing control of Richmond upon Thames council to the Conservatives. The success of minor parties in the 2006 elections was not repeated, and the smaller parties were almost wiped out.
