Hydrangea
''Hydrangea'', () commonly named the hortensia, is a genus of over 75 species of flowering plants native to Asia and the Americas. By far the greatest species diversity is in eastern Asia, notably China, Korea, and Japan. Most are shrubs tall, but some are small trees, and others lianas reaching up to by climbing up trees. They can be either deciduous or evergreen, though the widely cultivated temperate species are all deciduous. ''Hydrangea'' is derived from Greek and means ‘water vessel’ (from ''húdōr'' "water" + ''ángos'' or ''angeîon'' "vessel"), in reference to the shape of its seed capsules. The earlier name, ''Hortensia'', is a Latinised version of the French given name Hortense, honoring French astronomer and mathematician Nicole-Reine Hortense Lepaute. This claim is disputed in page 88 on citation 10 at Nicole-Reine Hortense Lepaute page, which says: "Larousse considers this an injustice, and remarks that it has led many persons to the erroneous notion t ...

Hydrangea Anomala
''Hydrangea anomala'', the Japanese climbing-hydrangea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae native to the woodlands of the Himalaya, southern and central China and northern Myanmar. It is a woody climbing plant, growing to 12 m height up trees or rock faces, climbing by means of small aerial roots on the stems. The leaves are deciduous, ovate, 7–13 cm long and 4–10 cm broad, with a heart-shaped base, coarsely serrated margin and acute apex. The flowers are produced in flat corymbs 5–15 cm diameter in mid-summer; each corymb includes a small number of peripheral sterile white flowers 2–3.5 cm across, and numerous small, creamy-white fertile flowers 1–2 mm diameter. The fruit is a dry urn-shaped capsule 3–5 mm diameter containing several small winged seeds. The closely related ''Hydrangea petiolaris'' from eastern Siberia, Japan, and Korea, is sometimes treated as a subspecies of ''H. anomala''; it differ ...

Hydrangea Hydrangeoides
''Hydrangea hydrangeoides'', the Japanese hydrangea vine, is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae, native to Ulleungdo Island of South Korea, Japan, and the southern Kuril Islands. Etymology The specific epithet ''hydrangeoides'' means "resembling ''Hydrangea''" or "like a ''Hydrangea''".Schizophragma hydrangeoides - Plant Finder. (n.d.). Missouri Botanical Garden. Retrieved November 29, 2022, from https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=286913 This may appear strange considering the current position of this taxon within the genus ''Hydrangea''. However, it was first described as a member of the genus ''Schizophragma'' and the specific epithet was chosen to express a morphological similarity to the previously separate genus ''Hydrangea''. Horticulture Under its synonym ''Schizophragma hydrangeoides'' its cultivars 'Roseum' and 'Moonlight' have gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit The Aw ...
