Cliffhanger (comics)
Cliffhanger was an Imprint (trade name), imprint of WildStorm, publishing Creator ownership in comics, creator-owned comic books. It was founded in 1998 by Joe Madureira, J. Scott Campbell and Humberto Ramos, when WildStorm was still part of Image Comics (the studio has since been sold to DC Comics). The imprint ended in summer of 2004 when it was merged with the Homage Comics line to form the WildStorm Signature Series. History The imprint's first release was Campbell's spy series ''Danger Girl'' in March 1998, followed by the first issue of Madureira's fantasy series ''Battle Chasers'' a month later and Ramos' teen-vampire series ''Crimson (comic book), Crimson'' in May. An imprint of a publisher is a trade name under which it publishes a work. A single publishing company may have multiple imprints, often using the different names as brands to market works to various demographic consumer segments. Joe Kelly (comics)
Joseph Kelly (born 1971) is an American comic book writer, penciler and editor who has written such titles as ''Deadpool'', ''Uncanny X-Men'', ''Action Comics'', and '' JLA'', as well as award-winning work on ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' and ''Superman''. As part of the comics creator group Man of Action Studios, Kelly is one of the creators of the animated series ''Ben 10''. Career Kelly attended Freeport High School and went on to receive his MFA at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he still teaches Writing for Animation/Writing for Comics. At NYU, he was recruited into Marvel Comics' editor James Felder's '' Stan-hattan Project'', a program that trained potential comic book writers at the university. WildStorm Imprints
Wildstorm Productions (stylized as WildStorm) is an American comic book imprint. Originally founded as an independent company established by Jim Lee and Brandon Choi to publish through Image Comics, Wildstorm became a publishing imprint of DC Comics in 1998. Until it was shut down in 2010, the Wildstorm imprint remained editorially separate from DC Comics, with its main studio located in California. The imprint took its name from a portmanteau of the titles of the Jim Lee comic series ''WildC.A.T.S.'' and '' Stormwatch''. Its main fictional universe, the Wildstorm Universe, featured costumed heroes. The Maxx
''The Maxx'' is an American comic book series created by Sam Kieth in 1993 and originally published monthly until 1998 by Image Comics for 35 issues, before being collected in trade paperback by DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint. The first appearance of the character was in '' Darker Image'' #1 by Image Comics in March 1993. The comic book, starring an eponymous purple-skinned hero, spawned a 13-episode animated series on MTV that originally aired April–June 1995. Starting in November 2013 and ending in September 2016, the original series has been republished by IDW as ''The Maxx: Maxximized'' with new colors and improved scans of the original artwork by Sam Kieth and Jim Sinclair. Epicurus The Sage
''Epicurus the Sage'' is a two-issue limited series graphic novel, written by William Messner-Loebs, with art by Sam Kieth. The two issues were published in 1989 and 1991 by Piranha Press, the "alternative comics" imprint of DC Comics. Plot Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus appears as the main character of the book, traveling the ancient world with Plato and Aristotle's young pupil Alexander the Great, sometimes with Aristotle himself. Together, they wander into various major Greek myths (e.g. the kidnapping of Persephone by Hades), and discuss the philosophical questions raised, with a great deal of slapstick humor. The book mixes history, mythology, and humor to relate the teachings of Epicurus. Liam Roger Sharp (born 2 May 1968) is a British comic book artist, writer, publisher, and co-founder/CCO of Madefire Inc. Early life Liam Sharp was born in Derby. He went to school at Brackensdale Junior then infants school, before moving to Allestree Lawn Junior school because of his parents' work. At the suggestion of his teachers he was advised to meet with the Gifted Children's Society, who in turn advised St. Andrew's Prep School in Meads, Eastbourne, to take Sharp on and establish their first Art Scholarship. He then went on to win the first Art Scholarship to Eastbourne College, where he stayed until his A Levels. ''The Possessed'' is a six-issue American comic book limited series published in late 2003 and early 2004 by WildStorm, an imprint of DC Comics. The series was published under WildStorm's internal imprint Cliffhanger. The series followed a fictional team of exorcists sponsored by the Vatican. Each member has a history with demonic possession. Carlos Pacheco
Carlos Pacheco Perujo (14 November 1961 – 9 November 2022) was a Spanish comics penciller. After breaking into the European market doing cover work for Planeta De Agostini, he gained recognition doing work for Marvel UK, the England-based branch of Marvel Comics, for his work on the ''Spider-Man'' magazine ''Dark Guard''. Kurt Busiek ( ; born September 16, 1960) is an American comic book writer. His work includes the '' Marvels'' limited series, his own series titled '' Astro City'', a four-year run on '' The Avengers, Thunderbolts,'' and ''Superman.'' Early life Busiek was born in Boston. He grew up in various towns in the Boston area, including Lexington where he befriended future comic book creator Scott McCloud. Busiek did not read comics as a youngster, as his parents disapproved of them. He began to regularly read them around the age of 14, when he picked up a copy of '' Daredevil'' #120 (April 1975). ''Arrowsmith'' is a fantasy comic book series by writer Kurt Busiek and penciller Carlos Pacheco that reimagines World War I in a world in which magic, dragons, and other magical beings exist. A six-issue series was published by WildStorm's Cliffhanger imprint in 2003 to generally positive reviews. A second six-issue series was published by Image Comics in 2022, also to positive reviews; it was one of Pacheco's last published works. Plot The series is set in an alternate Earth in which magic is real. Leinil Francis Yu
Leinil Francis Yu (born 1977) is a People of the Philippines, Filipino comic book artist, who began working for the United States, American market through Wildstorm Productions. Career Leinil Francis Yu was first recognized after winning the ''Wizard: The Comics Magazine, Wizard''s Drawing Board Contest, his first published work. He was first hired by Whilce Portacio to do some work for Wildstorm and started his comic book artist's career on ''Aster: The Last Celestial Knight'' #3 (with Ronaldo Roxas) in the mid-1990s, but that work fell through.
