Cliff Inglis
Cliff Inglis (1 January 1935 – 1 January 2001) was an English professional darts player. His prime years were in the mid-1970s and 1980s. Inglis was the winner of the first World Masters tournament, still considered by many as the most prestigious darts competition. He was nicknamed Ticker during his career. Career In 1974, Inglis won the inaugural Phonogram World Masters, defeating Harry Heenan 3–2 in the final. The following year he was a Unicorn World Darts Championship finalist, and was runner-up in the Indoor League – which was televised by Yorkshire TV - to Conrad Daniels. For two successive years in the mid-1970s, he won the Man of the Match award playing for England in the Home Internationals. Stonehouse, Plymouth
East Stonehouse was one of three towns that were amalgamated into modern-day Plymouth. West Stonehouse was a village that is within the current Mount Edgcumbe Country Park in Cornwall. It was destroyed by the French in 1350. The terminology used in this article refers to the settlement of East Stonehouse which is on the Devon side of the mouth of the Tamar estuary, and will be referred to as Stonehouse. History Settlement in the area goes back to Roman times and a house made of stone was believed to have stood near to Stonehouse Creek. However other stories relate to land owned in the 13th century by Robert the Bastard. This land subsequently passed from the Durnford family, through marriage, to the Edgecombe family in the 14th and 15th centuries. Plymouth
Plymouth () is a port city and unitary authority in South West England. It is located on the south coast of Devon, approximately south-west of Exeter and south-west of London. 1974 World Masters (darts)
The 1974 Phonogram World Masters was the first major tournament on the BDO/ WDF calendar for 1974. It took place from 31 August at the West Centre Hotel, Fulham. The tournament featured the best 60 players from around the world. 24 winners of major tournaments from the last year and an English qualifying round consisting of 36 players (2 from each county). The 36 County players played down to a last 8 before joining the 24 invitees to make the first round. Winmau World Masters
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters. Conrad Daniels
Conrad Edward Daniels (born September 11, 1941 from New Jersey) is a former American professional darts player who was active from the 1970s to the 1980s. Darts career Daniels was an elite competitor who won or finished near the top of dozens of individual and team events in his career. In 1975, Daniels won both the US Open and North American Open, and reached world #3 in the 1975-76 ratings of the European Darts Organization. He was also a member of the US team that took 2nd place at the 1979 World Cup, and a member of the team that finished in 2nd place at the 1980 Elkadart Nations Cup. Daniels was one of the first American players to seriously challenge British darters at their own game.
