Cleveland Thunderbolts
The Cleveland Thunderbolts were an arena football team based in Richfield, Ohio. The Thunderbolts were founded in 1991 and were a member of the Arena Football League (AFL). In 1994, the franchise relocated to Columbus The team played for four seasons total, making the playoffs once. They played their home games in the Richfield Coliseum. The team was moved to Cleveland by John J. Kuczek. History Columbus Thunderbolts Established as the Columbus Thunderbolts and playing its home games at the Expo Coliseum, the team relocated to Cleveland after 1991 season in the Arena Football League in 1991. Perhaps the highlight of the team's one year in Columbus was the play of quarterback Major Harris, who rushed for 429 yards during that season, an achievement given the predominance of passing in the play of the AFL. Dave Whinham
Dave Whinham (born January 2, 1957) is a former American football coach who was a head coach for five seasons in the Arena Football League with the Columbus/Cleveland Thunderbolts and Buffalo Destroyers. He is a native of Detroit. Coaching career Whinham coached college football for seven years, including two stints at his alma mater Grand Valley State University, one at Wayne State University and one at the University of Cincinnati. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Grand Valley State. He was a graduate assistant at Cincinnati in 1984. He joined the Detroit Drive as an assistant coach in 1988, winning ArenaBowl II in 1988 and ArenaBowl IV in 1990. He was the strength coach of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League during the 1990–91 season. Willie Bert Fears Jr. (born June 4, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) and the World League of American Football (WLAF). Rocket Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland Gladiators were an arena football team based in Cleveland, Ohio, and members of the Arena Football League (AFL). The Gladiators played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena, which they shared with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. The franchise was originally based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and then later in Las Vegas, Nevada, before relocating to Cleveland for the 2008 AFL season. The 2019 Arena Football League season was the 32nd season and final in the history of the Arena Football League (AFL) before filing for bankruptcy. The team was founded in as the Buffalo Destroyers, based in Buffalo, New York, and relocated to Columbus in .
