Cletis Leroy "Clete" Boyer (February 9, 1937 – June 4, 2007) was an American professional baseball third baseman — who occasionally played shortstop and second base — in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Athletics (1955–57), New York Yankees (1959–66), and Atlanta Braves (1967–71). Boyer also spent four seasons with the Taiyō Whales of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). In his 16-year big league career, Boyer hit 162 home runs, with 654 runs batted in (RBI), and a .242 batting average, in 1,725 games played. The minor planet was discovered on 8 October 2005, by American astronomers Scott Sheppard and Chad Trujillo at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. 23 known Neptune trojans have already been discovered. Numbering and naming This minor planet was named from Greek mythology after Clete, a member of the Amazons, an all-female warrior tribe that fought in the Trojan War on the side of the Trojans against the Greek. Michael Clete Thomas (born November 14, 1983) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder who played for the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins between 2008 and 2013.
