Islington London Borough Council, also known as Islington Council, is the local authority for the London Borough of Islington in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in London. The council has been under Labour majority control since 2010. The council meets at Islington Town Hall. History There has been an elected Islington local authority since 1856 when the vestry of the ancient parish of Islington was incorporated under the Metropolis Management Act 1855. The vestry served as one of the lower tier authorities within the area of the Metropolitan Board of Works, which was established to provide services across the metropolis of London. King's Cross is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. It returns councillors to Camden London Borough Council. The ward was subject to boundary revisions in 1971, 1978 and 2002 which also adjusted the number of councillors returned. The most recent change in 2022 significantly altered the boundaries of the ward. The ward has been dominated by councillors standing as Labour Party candidates throughout its existence. Farringdon Within is one of the 25 wards of the City of London, the historic and financial centre of London, England. It was formed in the 14th century from the sub-division of the pre-existing Farringdon Ward into ''Farringdon Within'' (inside the line of the Former London Wall), and Farringdon Without, beyond the Wall. Its suffix ''Without'' reflects its origin as lying beyond the London Wall, City's former defensive walls. It was first established in 1394 to administer the suburbs west of Ludgate and Newgate, including Smithfield, London, West Smithfield and Temple, London, Temple. This was achieved by splitting the very large, pre-existing Farringdon Ward into two parts, Farringdon Within (inside the wall) and Farringdon Without (outside the wall). The 1964 Islington Council election took place on 7 May 1964 to elect members of Islington London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour party gained control of the council. Background These elections were the first to the newly formed borough. Previously elections had taken place in the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury and Metropolitan Borough of Islington. These boroughs were joined to form the new London Borough of Islington by the London Government Act 1963. A total of 171 candidates stood in the election for the 60 seats being contested across 19 wards. These included a full slate from the Labour party, while the Conservative and Liberal parties stood 55 and 18 respectively.
