Clem Smith (politician)
Clem Smith is an American politician. He was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives representing the 85th District in Saint Louis County from 2011 to 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Smith was Deputy Minority Whip, and a member of the Joint Committee on Tax Policy, Elections, Select Committee on Utilities (Ranking member), and the Select Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations (Ranking Member). Smith served on the executive committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), and executive board of the National Labor Caucus of State Legislators (NLC). In addition to his community and political work Smith works as a stationary engineer in the oil and gas industry, and is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399, Upsilon Omega chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and Multiple Sclerosis Society. Missouri Democratic Party
The Missouri Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Missouri. Its chair is Russ Carnahan, the vice chair is Yvonne Reeves-Chong, the treasurer is Glenda Bainbridge, and the secretary is Joshua Dunne. Although the party was in the majority in state government as recently as the 1990s, the rival Republican Party has since substantially overtaken it. As a result of the 2022 elections, the Democratic Party controls none of Missouri's statewide offices for the first time since Reconstruction. The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) is a nonprofit organization of African American trade union members affiliated with the AFL–CIO. More than 50 different international and national trade unions are represented in CBTU and there are 50 chapters in the United States and one in Ontario, Canada. History CBTU was started in September 1972 when more than 1,200 black union officials and rank and file members from 37 national unions met on September 23–24 at the LaSalle Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, to discuss the role of black trade unionists in the labor movement. At the time, it was the largest single gathering of black unionists in the history of the American labor movement. Clayton High School is a public high school in Clayton, Missouri. History The first Clayton High School classes met on the upper floors of the Forsyth School beginning in 1908. In 1911, the school graduated its first class. Designed by William B. Ittner, the first Clayton High School building opened in September 1917 at 7500 Maryland Avenue. The building, which cost slightly less than $111,000 to construct and $14,000 to partially equip, included six main classrooms and a large study hall–library. The building also featured a chemistry, biology and physics laboratories, an art room, a music room, and several vocational and technical classrooms.
