Clean Comedian
Clean comedy is a comedy genre that is generally free of ribaldry: explicitly sexual content, profanity, politically or racially controversial jokes, toilet humor, and similarly objectionable material. Comedians may try to circumvent clean-comedy restrictions by using innuendos, euphemisms, doublespeak, double entendres, and gender-neutral language. Clean comedy is not necessarily unprovocative. Clean comedy is considered by some to be a higher form of comedy than bits that rely on the shock of profanity or sexual content to elicit laughs. ''Studio C'' is an American sketch comedy television show originally created by Matt Meese and Jared Shores. Produced by BYUtv, the show aims to be a clean, family-oriented comedy for a national audience. The show traces its roots to the Brigham Young University sketch comedy troupe Divine Comedy, which shares some cast members with ''Studio C''. The show's name is a reference to the studio in the BYU Broadcasting Building where the show is primarily taped. As of May 2025, the ''Studio C'' YouTube channel has over 3.3 million subscribers and has received more than 3 billion total views. Seven Dirty Words
The seven dirty words are seven English language profanity words that American comedian George Carlin first listed in his 1972 "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television" monologue. The words, in the order Carlin listed them, are: " shit", " piss", "fuck", "cunt", " cocksucker", " motherfucker", and " tits". These words were considered highly inappropriate and unsuitable for broadcast on the public airwaves in the United States, whether radio or television. As such, they were avoided in scripted material and bleep censored in the rare cases in which they were used. Broadcast standards differ in different parts of the world, then and now, although most of the words on Carlin's original list remain taboo on American broadcast television.
