''Clean'' is the second full-length studio album from industrial band Deitiphobia, released in 1994 by Myx Records. It is the earliest Deitiphobia album not to feature Brent Stackhouse, who left in 1992, and was also the band's debut for the Myx label. The album features Sheri Shaw, who remained with Deitiphobia until it dissolved in 2001, and Michael Knott, who produced '' Fear of the Digital Remix'' and was also the founder of the band's previous record label, Blonde Vinyl. Deitiphobia
Deitiphobia is a Christian industrial, electro and techno band from the United States formed in 1990 consisting of the duo of Wally Shaw and Brent Stackhouse. Known originally as Donderfliegen (translated into band speak as 'darn that fly'), the band changed names to Deitiphobia in 1991 to better clarify the band's focus on Christianity. The band's name means "Fear of God". History Early years (1990–1992) Deitiphobia was initially formed in 1990 under the name Donderfliegen by artists Wally Shaw and Brent Stackhouse. They released a demo album, ''Digital Priests'', on their own independent label, Slava Music. Electronic body music (EBM) is a genre of electronic music that combines elements of industrial music and synth-punk with elements of dance music. It developed in the early 1980s in Western Europe, as an outgrowth of both the punk and the industrial music cultures. It combines sequenced repetitive basslines, programmed disco rhythms, and mostly undistorted vocals and command-like shouts with confrontational or provocative themes. Michael Knott
Michael Gerard Knott (December 22, 1962 – March 12, 2024) was an American singer-songwriter and frontman for various bands, many of whom performed in the Christian rock genre. He released about 35 albums, including solo albums and albums with bands including LSU and Cush. He has been credited for pioneering the "alternative Christian rock scene". Early life and entrance into music Michael Knott was born in Aurora, Illinois southeast of Rockford. His music has sometimes been controversial in Christian circles, particularly due to the use of profanity in the song "Rocket and a Bomb" (from the self-titled release of his former band Aunt Bettys) and original artwork on the album showing Jesus as a bartender. Knott's songwriting appealed to many people, particularly Christians who were able to admit their flaws and who appreciated the honesty with which he tackled his own shortcomings. Blonde Vinyl was an independent record label founded in 1990 by Michael Knott. The ''Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music'' describes the label as "one of Christian music's first true indie labels." Background Blonde Vinyl signed bands with styles that were viable in the underground of the general market but rarely found their way into the Christian market—old school punk, garage rock, grunge, gothic, EBM/industrial, synthpop/house, spoken word, acoustic pop. A gambit in 1991 which saw Blonde Vinyl release 10 albums proved successful for a short period of time, with the company having a major fanbase among Christian teens and 20-somethings.
