Claudio Tozzi
Claudio Tozzi is a Brazilian artist born in 1944 in São Paulo, Brazil, who has worked since the 1960s to challenge the political and social culture of Brazil and the world. Through his art he has highlighted the censorship of military dictatorships, the woes of mass media, and the strength of individuals. He participated in the NeoFiguration movement, primarily about to issues experienced by Brazilians. Brazil lived under an oppressive dictatorship for years and the NeoFiguration movement worked to question the physical and social conditions of the era. Tozzi's work has since been shared worldwide as he has gained popularity outside Brazil due to widely understood themes. Nueva Figuración (translated New Figuration or Neofiguration) was an artistic movement in Spain and Latin America, specifically Argentina, Mexico, and Venezuela, that embraced a new form of figurative art in response to both abstraction and traditional forms of representation. Artists advocated a return to the human figure and everyday reality. They also rejected the aestheticized forms of traditional art, employing informal techniques, expressionism, and collage. Origins By the 1950s, informalist and geometric abstraction had gained prominence throughout Latin America. Rubens Gerchman
Rubens Gerchman (January 10, 1942 in Rio de Janeiro – January 29, 2008) was a Brazilian painter and sculptor. He was heavily influenced by concrete and neoconcrete art. Many of Gerchman's works are paintings based on populist themes and his political beliefs, which followed those of neoconcrete artists. His sculptures with letters, stem from concrete poetry. Career Gerchman studied at the Rio de Janeiro School of Fine Arts. In the 1960s, his work focused on mass culture. He used faces clipped from news photos, but unlike Andy Warhol, who used infamous celebrity, he used images of anonymous individuals. Felipe Ehrenberg
Felipe Ehrenberg (27 June 1943, Tlacopac, Mexico City, 1943 – 15 May 2017) was a Mexican artist who worked in painting, drawing, printmaking and performance, among other mediums. He also published books and magazines. Ehrenberg's artistic career of more than 50 years covered the conceptual art of the seventies, including mail art and mimeography, a neographical technique of which he was a pioneer.
