Claudio Vieira de Oliveira, also known as Claudio Oliveira, (born 1976) is a Brazilian motivational speaker and accountant born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a rare syndrome which affects the muscular system. Biography Claudio was born with a complicated body structure due to the arthrogryposis syndrome. He was born with his head positioned upside down and with severely deformed limbs. He was also born with muscular atrophy in his leg muscles, arms stuck to his chest and his head turned all the way back. The doctors initially expected that he might not be able to survive beyond 24 hours soon after his birth and they even advised his mother to let him starve to death. However, his mother ignored the doctors' advice, instead raising him alone. Claudio was carried by his mother until the age of seven and he started to walk on his knees at the age of eight. Tetra-amelia Syndrome
Tetra-amelia syndrome (''tetra-'' + '' amelia''), also called autosomal recessive tetraamelia, is an extremely rare autosomal recessive congenital disorder characterized by the absence of all four limbs. Other areas of the body are also affected by malformations, such as the face, skull, reproductive organs, anus, lungs and pelvis. The disorder can be caused by recessive mutations in the WNT3 or RSPO2 genes. Presentation Tetra-amelia syndrome is characterized by the complete absence of all four limbs. The syndrome causes severe malformations of various parts of the body, including the face and head, heart, nervous system, skeleton, and genitalia. In many cases, the lungs are underdeveloped, which makes breathing difficult or impossible. Because children with tetra-amelia syndrome have such serious medical problems, most are stillborn or die shortly after birth. Jennifer Bricker-Bauer (born Jennifer Bricker, October 1, 1987) is an American acrobatics, acrobat, aerialist, and memoirist. Born without legs, she was placed for adoption by her parents. She is the sister of American Olympic gymnast Dominique Moceanu, although the two were unaware they were biological siblings until later in life. Career Bricker grew up competing in gymnastics alongside teammates who did not have disabilities. At age of 10, she competed in the Junior Olympics. In 1998, Bricker competed in the AAU Junior Olympics (power tumbling), placing fourth. The same year she received the U.S. Tumbling Association’s Inspiration Award. She was the first disabled high school tumbling (gymnastics), tumbling champion in the state of Illinois. (born April 6, 1976) is a Japanese writer from Tokyo, who has written in the memoir, fiction and sports journalism genres. Biography Ototake was born without arms and legs due to tetra-amelia syndrome, a genetic disorder. Ototake is most notable for his 1998 memoir (). Within a year of publication, the book became the third-best-selling book in Japan since World War II. It has since been translated into English. After publishing his autobiography, Ototake became a successful sports journalist. In 2007, he took a job as a primary school (first through sixth grades) teacher at Suginami Dai-Yon Elementary School in Tokyo. Nicholas James Vujicic ( ; born 4 December 1982) is an Australian-American Christian evangelist and motivational speaker of Serbian descent. Vujicic has tetra-amelia syndrome, a condition characterised by the absence of arms and legs. Early life Vujicic was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1982 to Dušanka and Borislav Vujičić, Serbian immigrants from Yugoslavia. He was raised Serbian Orthodox in his earliest years, but the family later converted to Protestantism. Vujicic's father is a pastor in the Apostolic Christian Church.
