Claudie Weill
Claudie Weill (1945 – 29 September 2018) was a French historian. She worked on the history of the German working world. She was also a specialist on Rosa Luxemburg. A historian is a person who studies and writes about the past and is regarded as an authority on it. Historians are concerned with the continuous, methodical narrative and research of past events as relating to the human race; as well as the study of all history in time. Rosa Luxemburg
Rosa Luxemburg (; ; pl, Róża Luksemburg or ; 5 March 1871 – 15 January 1919) was a Polish and naturalised-German revolutionary socialism, revolutionary socialist, Marxism, Marxist philosopher and anti-war movement, anti-war activist. Successively, she was a member of the Proletariat (party), Proletariat party, the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania (SDKPiL), the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany, Independent Social Democratic Party (USPD), the Spartacus League (), and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Born and raised in an assimilated Jewish family in Poland, she became a German citizen in 1897. After the SPD supported German involvement in World War I in 1915, Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht co-founded the anti-war Spartacus League () which eventually became the KPD. Marc Ferro
Marc Ferro (24 December 1924 – 21 April 2021) was a French historian. Life and career Ferro worked on early twentieth-century European history, specialising in the history of Russia and the USSR, as well as the history of cinema. His Ukrainian-Jewish mother was murdered during the Holocaust. He was Director of Studies in Social Sciences at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. He was a co-director of the French review ''Annales'' and co-editor of the ''Journal of Contemporary History.'' He also directed and presented television documentaries on the rise of the Nazis, Lenin and the Russian revolution and on the representation of history in cinema. Ferro died from COVID-19 complications in Maisons-Laffitte in April 2021, at the age of 96.
