Candy Williams
Claude "Candy" Williams (1929–1983) was an Aboriginal Australian musician, known for his country and western singing, often termed the Aboriginal country music. He was an active advocate for the advancement of his people, and also appeared in several television films and series. Early life Claude Williams was born on Erambie Mission, near Cowra, New South Wales, in 1929. Career In the 1960s, he appeared on a number of teen TV shows, and also toured with Jimmy Little's All Coloured Show. Williams had recorded a number of albums by 1963, and had also acted in two films made for television. One of these was '' Burst of Summer'', as Charlie (1961; based on the stage play by Oriel Gray), and he subsequently appeared in the television series ''Wandjina!'' and in two episodes of ''A Country Practice''. Claude Williams (basketball, Born 1952)
Claude Williams (born 1952) is an Aboriginal Australian athlete who has played both rugby league and basketball for his home state of New South Wales, going on to become the first Aboriginal basketball coach in Australia. Early life Claude Williams was born in the Sydney suburb of Camperdown in 1952, the son of country musician Claude "Candy" Williams, and first cousin to Harry Williams, the first Indigenous soccer player to represent the Socceroos at a World Cup, in 1974. Early sports career Williams began his sporting career in cricket, playing for the Sydney Cricket Club in the AW Green Shield competition. The New South Wales Tennis Association then selected him to join their elite program. He then started getting interested in Rugby League, and played 12 games for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 1972–73 season, while playing basketball in between. Claude Williams (basketball, Born 1965)
Claude Williams (born 1965) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the North Carolina A&T Aggies before playing professionally in the Netherlands and France. College career Williams played five seasons of college basketball for the North Carolina A&T Aggies. After appearing in just five games in 1983–84, he was a consistent member of the Aggies from 1984–85 to 1987–88. In 122 career games, he averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He was named the MEAC Player of the Year and MEAC Tournament MVP as a senior in 1988. In 2016, Williams was inducted into the North Carolina A&T Sports Hall of Fame. As of 2016, he was third all-time in scoring (1,648), second in rebounding (973), fifth in field goals made (604), fifth in steals (196), and second in free throw attempts (676). Claude "Fiddler" Williams (February 22, 1908 – April 25, 2004) was an American jazz violinist and guitarist who recorded and performed into his 90s. He was the first guitarist to record with Count Basie and the first musician to be inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Early life Claude Gabriel Williams was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on February 22, 1908, the son of Lee J. Williams, a blacksmith, and Laura Williams, home maker. He was the youngest of six children. Talented from a young age, Williams could play multiple instruments in his brother-in-law's string band: banjo, cello, guitar, mandolin. Their early band played outside, in hotels, and at barbershops around their hometown of Muskogee, Oklahoma and on a circuit up through Oklahoma City. Claude Williams (born November 25, 1955 in Saint-Antoine, New Brunswick) is a politician and former civil servant in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Williams studied at the University of Moncton, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Williams was executive assistant to Omer Léger and then a regional manager for the provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. He also served as a municipal councillor in Saint-Antoine. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in a 2001 by-election and was re-elected in the 2003 general election and the 2006 general election. He served in the cabinet for part of 2006. He was Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure from 2010 until his defeat in the 2014 general election. Claude Williams (rugby Union)
Claude Wright Williams (16 May 1916 — 30 April 1998) was a New Zealand rugby union international. Williams was born in Centre Bush and educated at Timaru Boys' High School. A forward, Williams played rugby at the University of Canterbury and was an All Blacks representative on the 1938 tour of Australia, where he featured in four uncapped matches, as a flanker and lock. Williams served as a Royal Engineers officer during World War II and was involved in the Burma campaign, attached to the Indian Army. He was later a coach and selector of Canterbury's colts team. The Milliken-Williams Trophy, contested annually between Timaru Boys' High School and St Andrew's College, is jointly named after Williams and Harold Milliken, an All Black who attended the latter.
