Claude Wharton
Claude Alfred Wharton (15 October 1914 – 3 January 2003) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Wharton was born at Gayndah, Queensland, the son of William Alfred Wharton and his wife Daisy May (née Schlemer). He was educated at Ginoondan State School before attending Maryborough Grammar School. He was a grazier and a breeder of stud cattle and pigs. He later became a director of the Queensland Bacon Pty Ltd and the Queensland Cold Storage Cooperative Federation Ltd. 1986 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 1 November 1986 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. It followed a redistribution which increased the number of seats in the Assembly from 82 to 89. The election resulted in a seventh consecutive term for the National Party under Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. It was the 11th consecutive term for the National Party in Queensland since it first came to office in 1957. The Nationals secured a majority in their own right, with 49 seats. It is the only time that the Nationals have ever won enough seats to govern alone in an election at any level. They had come up one seat short of an outright majority in 1983, but picked up a majority after persuading two Liberals to cross the floor. This was the last time that a non-Labor Government was elected at a Queensland state election until 2012, although the Coalition briefly held government from 1996 to 1998 following the Mundingburra by-election. Bundaberg is a city in the Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia, and is the tenth largest city in the state. Bundaberg's regional area has a population of 70,921, and is a major centre of the Wide Bay–Burnett geographical region. Miriam Vale is a rural town and locality in the Gladstone Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Miriam Vale had a population of 512 people. Geography The town is situated on the Bruce Highway, north of Brisbane, the state capital, and south of Rockhampton. Monduran is a rural locality in the Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Monduran had a population of 91 people. Geography Lake Monduran forms much of the western boundary of the locality. The lake is the impoundment of the Kolan River by the Fred Haigh Dam (also known as the Monduran Dam). The river flows from the dam in the west of the locality through the locality to the east, where then forms the boundary between neighbouring localities Bucca and Damascus. The Bruce Highway passes from east to west through the south part of the locality. Monduran Dam Road connects the highway to the dam wall.
