Claude Iff (born 1946) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the 1960s as goalkeeper. Iff joined FC Basel's first team for their 1968–69 season under player-manager Helmut Benthaus. After playing in one test match, Iff played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game at the St. Jakob Stadium on 31 August 1968 as Basel against Grasshopper Club. 1968–69 FC Basel Season
The 1968–69 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 75th season in their existence. It was their 23rd consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion the season 1945–46. Harry Thommen was the club's chairman of the board for the third consecutive season. Basel played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Helmut Benthaus
Helmut Benthaus (born 5 June 1935) is a German former football player and coach. He spent his best playing days at Westfalia Herne and his best coaching days at FC Basel. Early career Born in Herne, Benthaus played youth football and started his professional career at Westfalia Herne in 1958. In 1959 he won the Oberliga West title but left just a year later to join 1860 Munich before moving to 1. FC Köln. He won the Oberliga West again in 1963 with Köln, then the German Bundesliga in 1964 and was Bundesliga runner-up in 1965. He played for the West Germany national team on eight occasions between 1958 and 1960. Jean-Paul Laufenburger (19 November 1943 – 16 November 2014) was a French footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Born in Mulhouse, Laufenburger started his football with the youth teams of the local football club Mulhouse, but he started his active career with Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1962. After just two years with Sochaux, he signed a semi-professional contract with Basel and stayed with them for ten seasons. Laufenburger joined Basel's first team for their 1964–65 season under the Czechoslovakian head coach Jiří Sobotka. The young Laufenburger was brought in as back-up goalkeeper to Marcel Kunz and the two of them shared the place between the posts during all this time, and by journeys to away games the two friends shared hotel rooms.
