Claude B. Ferenbaugh
Claude Birkett Ferenbaugh (16 March 1899–10 September 1975) was a United States Army Lieutenant general (United States), lieutenant general. He served as the operations officer of the U.S. II Corps in North African Campaign, Africa during World War II and commanded the 7th Infantry Division (United States), 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Early life and start of military career Ferenbaugh was born in Dresden, Yates County, New York, Dresden, New York, on 16 March 1899. Dresden is a village in Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 308 at the 2010 census. The village was named after Dresden in Germany. North African Campaign
The North African campaign of World War II took place in North Africa from 10 June 1940 to 13 May 1943, fought between the Allies and the Axis Powers. It included campaigns in the Libyan and Egyptian deserts (Western Desert campaign, Desert War), in Morocco and Algeria (Operation Torch), and in Tunisia ( Tunisia campaign). The Allied war effort was dominated by the British Commonwealth and exiles from German-occupied Europe. The United States entered the war in December 1941 and began direct military assistance in North Africa on 11 May 1942. Fighting in North Africa started with the Italian declaration of war on 10 June 1940.
