Acoustic Sounds, Inc. is a mail-order business specializing in the sale of audiophile vinyl LPs, SACDs, Reel-To-Reel album reissues (Analogue Productions Ultra Tape), DVD-Audios, high-quality CDs and high-end stereo equipment. Located in Salina, Kansas, United States. The business is owned and operated by Chad Kassem and as of 2016 employed 98 people. Company history Kassem started Acoustic Sounds in 1986. In 1991, Kassem scouted out a 3,500-square-foot former dance studio in this mid-sized Kansas downtown. In 1992, Kassem launched a reissue label called Analogue Productions. Kassem contracted with record labels – majors and independents – and licensed the original analog master tapes of choice recordings. Direct Stream Digital (DSD) is a trademark used by Sony and Philips for their system for digitally encoding audio signals for the Super Audio CD (SACD). DSD uses delta-sigma modulation, a form of pulse-density modulation encoding, a technique to represent audio signals in digital format, a sequence of single-bit values at a sampling rate of 2.8224 MHz. This is 64 times the CD audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, but with 1-bit samples instead of 16-bit samples. Noise shaping of the 64-times oversampled signal provides low quantization noise and low distortion in the audible bandwidth necessary for high resolution audio. DSD is simply a format for storing a delta-sigma signal without applying a decimation process that converts the signal to a PCM signal. Blue Heaven Studios is a recording studio located in a gothic-style church in Salina, Kansas. The studio is a division of Acoustic Sounds, Inc., founded by music entrepreneur Chad Kassem, and is the home of a yearly blues music festival — Blues Masters at the Crossroads. Church becomes recording studio Blue Heaven's shell is the former Salina First Christian Church, which Kassem purchased in 1996 after the church congregation relocated. The church was originally to be used solely to provide more storage space for Acoustic Sounds, Inc., an international LP record and CD mail-order business founded by Kassem in 1986.
