''Classic Masters'' is a compilation album by Blind Melon. ''Classic Masters'' was released on January 29, 2002. At the time of its release, ''Classic Masters'' drew some ire from the music press, most of whom quickly picked up on the differences between the ''Classic Masters'' versions and their complete album counterparts. Blind Melon
Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of guitarists Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn, drummer Glen Graham, vocalist Travis Warren and bassist Nathan Towne. They are best known for their 1993 hit " No Rain", and enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock. The band has sold over 3.2 million albums in the United States as of 2008. Blind Melon released two albums on Capitol Records – '' Blind Melon'' (1992) and ''Soup'' (1995) – before their original lead vocalist Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose on the band's tour bus in New Orleans on October 21, 1995. After four years of unsuccessfully searching for a replacement for Hoon, Blind Melon dissolved in 1999. Shannon Hoon
Richard Shannon Hoon (September 26, 1967 – October 21, 1995) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He was the lead singer of the band Blind Melon from 1990 until his death in 1995. Early life Hoon was born on September 26, 1967, in Lafayette, Indiana. He was raised in the nearby town of Dayton, Indiana, with his older half-sister, Anna and older half-brother, Tim. His father, Dick Hoon, was a bricklayer and his mother, Nel Hoon, was a manager of a bar in Dayton. In high school, he played football, wrestled, and was a pole vaulter. Shannon's musical influences included the Grateful Dead, The Beatles, John Lennon, and Bob Dylan. After graduating from McCutcheon High School in 1985, Hoon joined a local glam metal band named Styff Kytten, which also featured guitarist Michael Kelsey, bassist Brian Bundy and drummer Barry Koch. Cheryl Pawelski (born April 11, 1966 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is an American record producer and record-company executive. Since 2010, she has been one of the founder/owners of Omnivore Recordings, a Los Angeles-based record label specializing in historical releases, reissues and previously unissued vintage recordings, as well as select releases of new music. Early life Pawelski is the oldest child of a family from Milwaukee. Her father worked in manufacturing and is a longtime musician who regularly volunteered as a piano player at a Milwaukee hospital. Her grandmother worked at a local department store which sold records, and encouraged Pawelski to begin a music collection at an early age. "No Rain" is a song by American rock band Blind Melon. It was released in 1993 as the second single from the band's debut album ''Blind Melon''. The song is well known for its accompanying music video, which features the "Bee Girl" character. The music video, directed by Samuel Bayer, received heavy airplay on MTV at the time of its release. "Galaxie" is a single by American rock band Blind Melon. It was originally recorded for their 1995 second studio album ''Soup''. Background The song uses the main subject matter of Blind Melon lead singer Shannon Hoon's 1963 Ford Galaxie to also explore the deeper themes of his first love and break-up. He had originally bought this car used in New Orleans, for rather cheap, as the doors wouldn't even open. The original title for the song was called "I'm a Freak," but Hoon hated the original lyrics and refused to sing them. During the recording sessions Hoon would get frustrated and drive around the city in the car. Glen Graham believes it was during one of these drives that Hoon came up with the final lyrics to the song. Hoon never confirmed this claim. ''Blind Melon'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Blind Melon, released on September 22, 1992, through Capitol Records. "No Rain" became Blind Melon's breakthrough single. Background In 1990, lead singer Shannon Hoon moved from Indiana to Los Angeles. Soon he met guitarist Rogers Stevens and bassist Brad Smith, both Mississippi natives who had come to Los Angeles a year earlier. They began playing together and then recruited a second guitarist, Christopher Thorn. The foursome then looked for a drummer in the local area, but months passed and their search was unsuccessful. Stevens and Smith eventually persuaded Glen Graham to come to Los Angeles and join the band. After Blind Melon recorded a four-song demo called ''The Goodfoot Workshop'', Capitol Records became interested and signed them in 1991 although they never released the band's demo as an EP. "Tones of Home" is a song by American rock band Blind Melon, released in 1992 as their first single. It reached number 20 on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. After the breakthrough success of the next single, "No Rain", "Tones of Home" was released again; it was accompanied by a new video which was a sequel to the "No Rain" video and its " Bee Girl" storyline.
