Class Clowns
Class Clowns is Melbourne International Comedy Festival's development program for young people around the country. Description After a competition has been held across the country, heats, semi-finals and then finals are run in each Australian state and territory, with the winners of the state finals competing in the Grand Final in Melbourne. The Grand Final is held during Melbourne International Comedy Festival at the Forum Theatre (previously held at Melbourne Town Hall and Malthouse Theatre). Professional comedians who have hosted the grand final include Tom Gleeson and Nath Valvo. Special guest comedians perform a headline set; in the past, these have included Peter Helliar, Tripod, Ross Noble, and Judith Lucy. Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the largest stand-alone comedy festival and the second-largest international comedy festival in the world. Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks, typically starting in March and running through to April. The Melbourne Town Hall has served as the festival hub, but performances are held in many venues throughout the city. The MICF plays host to hundreds of local and international artists; in 2018 the festival listed over 550 shows, 6,700 performances (including more than 160 free performances) by 3,500 artists. Although it is mainly a vehicle for stand-up and cabaret acts, the festival has also included sketch shows, plays, improvisational theatre, debates, musical shows and art exhibitions. Judith Lucy
Judith Mary Lucy (born 25 March 1968) is an Australian comedian and actress, known primarily for her stand-up comedy. Lucy joined the team of the ABC's ''The Weekly with Charlie Pickering'' in 2019. Early life Lucy's adoptive parents emigrated from Ireland to Perth in the early 1950s, and she was born and raised in Perth. She is the sister of Australian writer and scholar Niall Lucy. Lucy attended Curtin University and studied theatre, moving to Melbourne at the age of 20. At 25, she discovered she was adopted and later made contact with her biological mother. Lucy is quoted as saying they have a good relationship. Imaan Hadchiti
Imaan Hadchiti is an Australian comedian and actor of Lebanese descent. Born in Mylor, South Australia, Hadchiti and his sister Rima Hadchiti are the only two known cases of "Rima Syndrome", a genetic condition causing small stature yet retaining normal proportions. Hadchiti stands tall, and many of his comedy routines focus on the way people of normal stature react to him. Starting his stand-up career at the age of 15, he won Triple J's ''Class Clown'' comedy contest in 2005, and has since performed on '' The NRL Footy Show'', the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Aaron Chen (born 1995) is a Chinese-Australian comedian from Sydney. Early life Aaron Chen was born in 1995. He went to North Sydney Boys High, where he started doing stand-up. Career In 2012, aged 15, Chen won Melbourne International Comedy Festival's " Class Clowns", a national competition for high-school children, and after this started performing in pubs around Sydney. Rhys Nicholson (born 22 April 1990) is an Australian comedian and known for being a judge on ''RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under'' from 2021 onwards. Joel Creasey (born 11 August 1990) is an Australian stand-up comedian, actor, television and radio presenter. Creasey has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as performing at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2013 and 2014 and the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015. In September 2020, Creasey joined Nova FM's national radio show ''Kate, Tim & Joel'' as a co-host with Kate Ritchie and Tim Blackwell. Thomas Colin Ballard (born 26 November 1989) is an Australian comedian, radio and television presenter. Early life Ballard was born to parents Judy and Neil Ballard and grew up in Warrnambool, Victoria. He attended Brauer Secondary College, graduating in 2007 as School Captain and Dux and achieving an Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank of 99.80 in his Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).
