Alexander Ross Clarke Royal Society of London, FRS FRSE (1828–1914) was a British geodesist, primarily remembered for his calculation of the Principal Triangulation of Britain (1858), the calculation of the Figure of the Earth (1858, 1860, 1866, 1880) and one of the most important text books of Geodesy (1880). He was a military officer of the Royal Engineers employed on the Ordnance Survey, attaining the rank of colonel. Adam Clarke
Adam Clarke (176226 August 1832) was an Irish writer and biblical scholar. As a writer and biblical scholar, he published an influential Bible commentary among other works. Additionally, he was a Methodist theologian who served three times as President of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference (British: 1806–07, 1814–15 and 1822–23), and of the Irish Conference (1811, 1812, 1816, 1822). Biography Early life and education Clarke was born in 1760 or 1762, in the townland of Moybeg Kirley near Tobermore in County Londonderry. His father, an Anglican, was a village schoolmaster and farmer; his mother was a Presbyterian. His childhood consisted of a series of life-threatening mishaps. Alan John Clarke (28 October 1935 – 24 July 1990) was an English television and film director, producer and writer. Life and career Clarke was born on 28 October 1935, in Wallasey. Most of Clarke's output was for television rather than cinema, including work for the famous play strands ''The Wednesday Play'' and ''Play for Today''. His subject matter tended towards social realism, with deprived or oppressed communities as a frequent setting. Allan John Clarke (born 31 July 1946), nicknamed "Sniffer", is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Walsall, Fulham, Leicester City, Leeds United and Barnsley, and won 19 international caps for England. Career Early career Clarke was born in Short Heath, Willenhall, Staffordshire. He is the third of seven children. Clarke joined Walsall in 1961 as an apprentice, playing his debut for the Saddlers in October 1963, against Reading. Whilst at the club he scored 46 goals in 82 appearances. He was transferred to Fulham in March 1966 for a fee of £35,000. Such was his early promise that Leicester City paid £150,000 for Clarke in 1968, a then British football transfer fee record. Ashley Clarke
Sir Henry Ashley Clarke (26 June 1903 – 20 January 1994) was a British diplomat who was ambassador to Italy. Later he was chairman of the Venice in Peril Fund. Early life Henry Ashley Clarke was a son of Henry Hugh Rose Clarke (a son of Col. Henry Stephenson Clarke) and the former Rachel Hill Duncan (a daughter of John H. H. Duncan). Adele Elizabeth Clarke (April 1, 1945 – January 19, 2024) was an American sociologist and women's health scholar. Clarke was considered a distinguished scholar and leader in the field of Science, Technology, and Medicine Studies (ST&MS). She made significant contributions to sociology, history of medicine and feminist reproductive studies. Career She received a bachelor's degree from Barnard College in 1966 and a master's degree in sociology from New York University in 1970. She studied dance with Deborah Hay and danced in some performances of Yvonne Rainer.
