Clarinda is a city in and the county seat of Page County, Iowa. It is located in Nodaway Township. The population was 5,369 at the time of the 2020 census. History Clarinda was founded in 1851, and incorporated on December 8, 1866. Many stories are told of such notables as Jesse James frequently passing through. The town is named for Clarinda Buck, who according to legend carried water to the surveyors while Page County was first being surveyed. The best known national firm in Clarinda for many decades was Berry's Seed Company, a mail order farm seed distribution business founded in 1885 at Clarinda by A. A. Berry. Berry's Seed Company diversified into retail stores in the 1950s, but the stores were sold off over the following decade, and today the company, known as Berry's Garden Center, operates from its one remaining retail outlet in Danville, Illinois. The Hawkeye 10 Conference is a high school athletic conference in Iowa made up of larger-mid-size schools in Southwest Iowa. Most members participate at the 3A level in all sports, which is the second highest level of competition in Iowa. New Market Community School District
New Market Community School District was a school district headquartered in New Market, Iowa, United States. History In 1882 the school opened in the M.E. Church, and that year it moved to a school building with four rooms. A five-room school house was built after a 1900 fire destroyed the initial location. The 10th grade was established in 1912. Lohn Liggett gave support to a brick schoolhouse built in the 1921–1922 school year. New Market schools consolidated with several rural schools on November 12, 1958. An elementary school and gymnasium building were constructed in 1961. The high school division closed in 1989.
