Clare Senior Hurling Championship
The Clare Senior Hurling Championship or Clare SHC, is an annual hurling competition organised by the Clare GAA, Clare County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. It is contested by the top-ranking senior hurling clubs in County Clare, Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Clare hurling. Introduced in 1887 as the Clare Hurling Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams. The championship has gone through a number of changes throughout the years, including the use of a round robin, before reverting to a straight knockout format. In its current format, the Clare Senior Hurling Championship begins once the Clare senior hurling team have concluded their All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship campaign, with seventeen club teams competing in the championship. 2024 Clare Senior Hurling Championship
The 2024 Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, TUS Clare Senior Hurling Championship was the 129th staging of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Clare GAA, Clare County Board in 1887. The draws for the 2024 Clare club championship group stages took place on 21 May 2024. The championship was contested by 16 teams, reduced by 1 from the 2023 championship. The group stage was in a round-robin format, with each team playing each team in their group once. The draws for the quarter-finals and relegation playoffs took place on 9 September 2024. The quarter-finals were played between the winners of each group versus the runners up of each group. The relegation playoffs were played between the last-place teams of each group, with the losers of these entering a relegation final to determine the relegated team. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). St Joseph's Doora-Barefield GAA
St Joseph's, Doora-Barefield is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Doora-Barefield outside Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. Hurling was the more popular sport in Doora-Barefield over Gaelic football, now it's 50-50 between the both of them. Their main playing fields are in Gurteen. They have three full-size hurling and football pitches. There is also changing and showering facilities there. Sixmilebridge GAA
Sixmilebridge is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Sixmilebridge, County Clare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. History Sixmilebridge GAA Club was founded in 1904. The first recorded matches were at junior hurling and football level against Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA, Newmarket-on-Fergus with the hurlers winning and the footballers losing 2–07 to 0–02. The first recorded championship success was in 1940. O'Callaghan's Mills GAA, Kilkishen were defeated in the Clare Intermediate Hurling Championship by Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA, Newmarket-on-Fergus. Jimmy Smyth (hurler)
James Smyth (1 January 1931 – 9 February 2013) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Clare senior team. Smyth made his first appearance for the team during the 1948–49 National Hurling League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1967 championship. During that time he won one Oireachtas medal and one Thomond Feis medal, and was a Munster final runner-up on two occasions. At club level, Smyth was a five-time county club championship medallist with Ruan. After retirement from play Smyth, in 1984 he was named on a special Hurling Team of the Century made up of players never to have won an All-Ireland medal. In 2000 he was named on the Munster Hurling Team of the Millennium. Scariff is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Scariff, County Clare, Ireland. History There is very little recorded of the first few years of Scariff Hurling Club, but it has almost certainly always been a senior club. Inagh-Kilnamona GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the parish of Inagh and Kilnamona, County Clare in Ireland. The club field teams in hurling. The present club was formed prior to the 2008 season when Inagh GAA and Kilnamona GAA merged to form one club. History The club was set up in 1887. It was originally called Smith O'Brien's, Kilnamona, after the nationalist William Smith O'Brien (1803–64). Kilnamona enjoyed success in the first decade of the 20th century, winning the Clare Senior Hurling Championship in 1902, 1903 and 1908. In 1902, Kilnamona defeated Barefield in the County Final. Éire Óg, Inis GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. The club plays both Hurling and Gaelic Football at all age levels.
