Claires Court School
Claires Court School is a 2–18 all-through private day school and sixth form in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. As one of a small number of diamond schools located in the United Kingdom, it is unique in that while its nursery and sixth form are mixed, Juniors (primary) and Seniors (secondary) are single-sex, though as of 2023, the Juniors will begin to merge into fully coed over the course of the next six years. History Founded in 1960 by David and Josephine Wilding, as a day and boarding school for boys aged 6+ to 13, Claires Court grew quickly to 180 pupils by 1970. Ridgeway, originally acquired in 1964 to provide full and weekly boarding accommodation, was converted to be the junior school in 1975 when the age range at the Ray Mill Road East site was extended to 16 year-olds. Maidenhead is a market town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in the county of Berkshire, England. It lies on the southwestern bank of the River Thames, which at this point forms the border with Buckinghamshire. In the 2021 Census, the Maidenhead built-up area had a population of 67,375. The ''Maidenhead Advertiser'' is a weekly local paper in England which has been published in the Berkshire town of Maidenhead since 1869. An independent publication run by the family firm Baylis Media Ltd, it is owned by a charitable trust, the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable Trust, which contributes donations to the community. History 1869 to 1901 The first copy of the ''Maidenhead Advertiser'' was published on 28 July 1869. Its founder was Edwin Bushell Prosser and his first edition cost one old penny and was four-pages long. Publication day was Wednesday, which was market day in the town. Benjamin "Ben" Sneesby (born 26 June 1994) is a British alpine skier. Sneesby uses a sit-ski in competitions. Personal history Sneesby was born on 26 June 1994 in High Wycombe. At the age of three months he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. He underwent a course of chemotherapy and several operations, which resulted in the successful treatment of the tumour, but left him with no sensation in his left leg, and only partial feeling in his right leg. Sneesby attended school at Claires Court School in Maidenhead and John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe, but on achieving his A-Levels, decided to defer his degree course to focus on his skiing. Mark Ashton Richardson (born 26 July 1972, in Slough) is a retired English sprinter who competed mainly in the 400 metres and 4 × 400 metres relay for Great Britain and England. He won the gold medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1997 World Championships, and again in the same event at the 1998 European Championships. James Richard O'Shaughnessy, Baron O'Shaughnessy (born 26 March 1976) is a British Conservative politician and member of the House of Lords. He authored the 2010 Conservative Party Manifesto titled 'An Invitation to Join the Government of Britain', was Director of the Number 10 Policy Unit and served as a Minister at the Department of Health and Social Care. Nils Mordt (born 5 December 1983 in Harare, Zimbabwe) is a retired rugby union footballer who played at centre for Saracens and England Sevens. Mordt is the nephew of South African legend, Ray Mordt. Nick Kennedy (born 19 August 1981) is a retired English rugby union player and former Director of Rugby at London Irish. He played Lock for England, London Irish, Toulon and Harlequins. Amber Jo Rutter (née Hill, born 21 August 1997) is an English sport shooter who specialises in skeet. She has won a total of three gold medals in a major international competition, spanning the ISSF World Cup series (2013 and 2015), and the inaugural European Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
