Claire Sombert
Claire Sombert (1935–2008) was a French ballerina and ballet instructor. Life Born in Courbevoie near Paris, Sombert began studying dance at the age of twelve with Yves Brieux. She later trained under Russian instructors Victor Gsovsky. Sombert made her professional debut in Lausanne in 1950. At sixteen, she joined Janine Charrat's company and performed in Passage de l’Etoile. She subsequently worked with Roland Petit on Le Loup, Jean Babilée at La Scala in Le Jeune Homme et la Mort, Milorad Miskovitch, and other choreographers. In 1972, she became a principal dancer at Le Ballet du Rhin, remaining for two years. Choreographers such as Françoise Adret, Maurice Béjart, Victor Gsovsky, Serge Lifar, and Milko Šparemblek created roles for her. ''Invitation to the Dance'' is a 1956 American dance anthology film consisting of three distinct stories, all starring and directed by Gene Kelly. It was the first film Kelly directed on his own, after co-directing three films with Stanley Donen. The film is unusual in that it has no spoken dialogue, with the characters performing their roles entirely through dance and mime. Eugene Curran Kelly (August 23, 1912 – February 2, 1996) was an American dancer, actor, singer, director and choreographer. He was known for his energetic and athletic dancing style and sought to create a new form of American dance accessible to the general public, which he called "dance for the common man". Yvette Chauviré
Yvette Chauviré (; 22 April 1917 – 19 October 2016) was a French prima ballerina assoluta and actress. She is often described as France's greatest ballerina, and was the mentor of another pair of well-known prima ballerinas named, Sylvie Guillem and Marie-Claude Pietragalla. She was awarded the Legion of Honour, Légion d'Honneur in 1964. Early life Yvonne Chauviré was born in Paris on 22 April 1917. Marcel François Paul Landowski (18 February 1915 – 23 December 1999) was a French composer, biographer and arts administrator. Biography Born at Pont-l'Abbé, Finistère, Brittany, he was the son of French sculptor Paul Landowski and great-grandson of the composer Henri Vieuxtemps. He was father of a son and two daughters. Milko Šparemblek
Milko Šparemblek (1 December 1928 – 25 February 2025) was a Slovenian-born Croatian dancer, choreographer, stage director, and film director. He made about 40 ballet films and to date there have been about 150 premieres of his work in over 50 theatres around the world. Šparemblek received a number of awards including a Vladimir Nazor Lifetime Achievement Award and a Distinguished Artist Award from the International Society for the Performing Arts. Serge Lifar (, ''Serhіy Mуkhailovуch Lуfar'') ( 15 December 1986) was a Ukrainian dancer, choreographer, and one of the greatest male ballet dancers of the 20th century. Lifar was also a choreographer, director, writer, theoretician about dance, and collector. As ballet master of the Paris Opera from 1930 to 1944, and from 1947 to 1958, he devoted himself to the restoration of the technical level of the Paris Opera Ballet, returning it to its place as one of the best companies in the world.
